What's your personality type?

Came across this test and was amused by the results

Not sure how many of you have have studied psychology or heard of the Myers-Briggs type indicator. For those that haven't it's a well known personality assessment that categorizes everyone into 16 different types.

It's worth your time if you haven't taken it--definitely helped me better understand some of my tendencies (I'm an ENTJ). I'm curious about any correlations there might be between certain types and those who hang around this place.

My breakdown was:

Extraverted Intuitive Thinking Judging (67, 12, 75, 67)

http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

ENTJ and INTJ depending on the test. Makes sense, I suppose.

"When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing in life; now that I am old I know that it is." - Oscar Wilde "Seriously, psychology is for those with two x chromosomes." - RagnarDanneskjold

Depends on the test: * Briggs: INTP * Keirsey: ESFJ I wonder what the composite would be?

Get along best with ENTPs and INTJs. I guess that means I like the majority of y'all on this website.

Ha- ENTJ. Makes sense, although I think it's difficult to answer the questions in a way that doesn't reflect a romanticized perception on your own personality.

Here's my breakdown: extraverted 22 intuitive 38 thinking 50 judging 1

Don't believe everything you think.

Mine shifts every couple of years, for the record, especially the E/I and the T/P. We define ourselves in opposition to our surroundings. I used to be an INTP. Now I am an ENTP.

You tend to become an extrovert if you're surrounded by introverts. You tend to get more organized when you are surrounded by disorganized people.

Would be interesting to have everyone take the test, stick the extroverts in one room, the introverts in the other, have them talk for a half hour, and have everyone retake the test and see how the results change. I'll bet a number of introverts become extroverts and vice-versa.

IlliniProgrammer:
We define ourselves in opposition to our surroundings.
I'd refine it further: we define ourselves. Unlike IQ...raw processing horsepower...personality is highly context based, and is very fluid. It's also a matter of what we choose to do and be.

Relinquis:
Which personality type is the most prestigious?

surprised none has asked this yet...

ENTP: They are not easily impressed by poseurs, they value everyone equally.

In other word, they don't give a shit about whether you are Obama or a nobody. If what you are saying is baseless, they will question you.

Power and Money do not change men; they only unmask them

ENTP clearly. We have the freedom to think outside the box and the bravery to ask tough questions! (Even as we trip over our shoes on the way to do so.)

I think every personality type has its strengths and weaknesses. The rationalist (NT) subtype that most of us are (one of the rarest subtypes- only about 8% of the population) creates people who are interested in self-improvement and ideas and cogent thinking, but it makes us focus more on ideas than other people, and sometimes, our interest in self-improvement gets unhealthy and turns into an obsession with prestige. In some ways, NTs have sociopathic tendencies. As long as we recognize that, we can avoid getting caught up in it.

Edit: FlakieBear changed his answer on me. He originally said INTP. Frigging P-type personalities, we can't make up our minds.

No I did not change my answer on you LOL.

I am an ENTP and I meant ENTP and realized that I kept writing INTP.

Look at my answer to Relinquis.

ENTPs are the only types who question every thing and every one.

I heard that ENTP make bad parents because they might forget that they were playing with their kids or that they might forget them in the bath tube.

I know that will be the case because when I put something on the oven, I always forget about it until I hear my fire alarm.

IlliniProgrammer:

Yeah, this is why I don't live alone, the people in my living space keep me grounded. I can't imagine how far out of hand this would get if left completely to my own devices. Especially working in NYC, it's really easy to get caught up in competition to the point where you start considering things that make most other people tilt their head, squint, and ask "you did WHAT?!" http://top5s.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/confused-cat-huh-510x362.jpg

In which case, Flakie, I would point out that most ENTPs wind up working for ENTJs. Also, ENTPs are known to drive themselves crazy about people with more prestige and more money than them. We are the worst of the rationalists.

Much better to be an ENTJ, INTP, or INTJ.

Is it money or prestige? Part of our problem is that we go extreme on our rational thinking. I had a convo with a friend and told her that I honestly was not sure about what motivate me in terms of career. I wonder if I would be happy with a job that pay extremely well but that lacks "prestige".

I decided to become an opportunist (like the ENTJs) and stop rationalize everything.

We waste so much time and energy, trying to understand every little details of our lives and people's lives.

Power and Money do not change men; they only unmask them

I'm also an ENTP, looking into hedge fund trading as a career. If you're looking for something to motivate you, read Doing Good Better by William McAskill/Google 80000hours if you don't have time. Makes any career feel 10x more worthwhile.

I feel like the most "prestigious" is probably the one that you are if you have a dominant personality. For example, the two ones that I have gotten ENTJ and ESTJ I think are the best because they show that I wish to be a leader or management. If I wanted to be an entrepreneur, the most prestigious would probably be the one that shows that. An artist...the one that shows that etc.

Reality hits you hard, bro...

I think by prestigious we don't mean what the type tells about the individual but rather what the individual tells about the type. Your type can indicate that ENTJ/ESTJ want to become leaders but are most leaders ENTJ and ESTJ?

I usually get INTJ, along with Nietzsche and Putin.

Sometimes I'll get ENTJ or ENTP, and other times I'll get something drastically different, so I think it depends a lot on your state of mind when you take the test.. And it's hard for me to believe that a test can really determine something so abstract and nuanced as a personality.

INTJ Master Race checking in high five

I remember reading something somewhere that INTJ was the most common type in IB.

You know you've been working too hard when you stop dreaming about bottles of champagne and hordes of naked women, and start dreaming about conditional formatting and circular references.

ESTJ here, but my thinking and judging percentages are almost equally weighted, so I'll oscillate between a few results. The E and the I also depend on my mood when I'm taking the test.

Pretty much where I expected it to be.

Commander (ENTJ-a)

Famous ENTJs

Steve Jobs

Gordon Ramsay

Harrison Ford

Margaret Thatcher

I'm ENFP, along with Robin Williams, Bill Clinton, and Dr. Seuss

so you are/likely to be a funny person who has committed 'extra-curricular' business in your place of work and talk in rhymes?

Shitting where you eat Can't be beat Cuz speed is a boon In matters of the poon

To be honest I was expecting ENTP or ENTJ, but ended up being slightly more F than T and slightly more P than J. The E and N were pretty high. After looking at the descriptions my result seems remarkably accurate

Oscillate between INTJ and ENTJ (I am almost perfectly split between the two). Other ENTJs - Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, Bill Gates, Aristotle Other INTJs - Zuckerburg, Tesla, Newton, Elon Musk

Basically we run shit...

Wait, what? The Myers-Briggs test was invented in the early 1900's. How the fuck do they know for certain that Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Aristotle are ENTJ's...?

How does anyone know that the famous people that they are "like" actually test that way?

Did someone actually test Dr Seuss, Donald Trump et al, or is this just speculation by people selling the test who realised vanity is a useful selling point?

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

Of course the latter. I was hoping to find famous mass murders and dictators like Hitler....however, you don't find too many people saying they have the same personality type as Ted Bundy (or even Al Bundy for that matter).

Based on an internet search, many people speculate that Hitler was an INFJ, same with Jesus...

That's why the purely fictional characters are more relevant or at least amusing. I doubt Thomas Edison, Mark Twain or even the esteemed Weird Al (or Celine Dion, huh?) took this test and ended up with the same result as me but the Joker and Capt Jack Sparrow make me think I'm a very prestigious yet fucked up pirate or sociopath. And that's been my goal for decades.

ENTP here as well. Once I got ENTJ but I was just feeling judgey that day. There aren't very many of us (I think I recall us being one of the most rare if not the rarist personality type), probably why there aren't many on these boards. Whatever, we're sharp as fuck and the world can't handle too much of our greatness. Plus, we have a sort of natural ADD that makes it difficult to have the same follow through as many people here.

haven't seen this one around here: INTP-T (logician), along with Bill Gates, Isaac Newton, Descartes and Blaise Pascal.

Take care to get what you want, otherwise you will be forced to like what you get.

Probably true. I mean lack of empathy, paranoia, aggressiveness, and hard rationality- especially if combined with introversion is probably a dangerous combination.

Reality hits you hard, bro...

I treat people who take Myers Briggs scores too seriously the same as people check their daily horoscopes. I tip them 15% on the check as I'm leaving.

Don't fall into that shit.

"It is better to have a friendship based on business, than a business based on friendship." - Rockefeller. "Live fast, die hard. Leave a good looking body." - Navy SEAL

yeah the horoscope is bullshit. but in my opinion the personality test is less bullshit. I mean I am just trying to see for my friend and I what credit analyst do on a day to day and will it compliment a specific personality trait.

Dealing with people, dealing with facts and tangible outcomes, etc etc..

Maybe I should reword my initial post. but I figure someone would know..

I enjoyed this. So much.

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

If this were the case, everyone who has worked in IB would want to move over to distressed funds and other credit analyst roles. Since they already hate their lives in IB, the natural move would be looking at the glass half-empty (which is what credit is in essence). GS special situations would've already committed suicide by now

lol your post is funny. Maybe I should reword my initial post, I wasn't thinking about how people think, its more like sometimes people enjoy working with numbers, and other people enjoy working with people and stuff like that..

maybe you can help me, it seems like your in risk, do you work with people often? it is boring? are there ever anything different from your usual

Personalities change over time, as do Meyer Briggs results.

I don't know about Meyer Briggs tests, but personalities, preferences and priorities certainly change over time. I know mine have.

In other words, don't be afraid to take things a day at a time. Feel free to plan and think strategically, but keep flexibility...

I used to do Asia-Pacific PE (kind of like FoF). Now I do something else but happy to try and answer questions on that stuff.

So true... I think I have the prestige part under control to some extent (I thank the level headed women in my life for this), but I still get caught up with money and challenging the status quo... the entrepreneurial streak is there.

I've been called all of these (usually jokingly) apart from frugal...

Seems like there are a few of us on this board. I'd say we're in good company. To name a few:

-einstein -descartes -darwin -5 US presidents -isaac newton -socrates -pascal -tiger woods

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

To the other ENTP's, how have you dealt with our issues regarding day to day mundane tasks? I can't imagine an ENTP doing well in iBanking purely because we aren't detail driven enough. Problem solving and generating ideas are our strength, and we get easily bored doing repetitive tasks over and over again, what roles do you think would most be suited. Investing and or quant. work would be my guess (and from experience), would be interested to get some opinions?

I'm an ENTP and I work as an investor... the issue isn't the repetition or attention to detail, rather submitting to the status quo / authority... given my area of investing (REPE), it's not an issue.

I think ENTP types would do well in banking at the mid-senior levels (Associate and especially above).

Quants can get away with being scatterbrained a little more than traders, but it is still a very grinding job. Oh well, that's why they call it work and someone pays you to do it. (If it were totally fun, someone would do it for free.)

You can't boost your execution quotient from 75 to 150, but you can nudge it from 75 to 85 if you exercise it the right way. Shoot me a PM for some book recommendations.

What the heck, I was ESTJ back in high school (when I took AP Psychology we took this same exact exam), and now that I'm a junior in college I scored ENFP (1, 25, 38, 11)%.

Do personality traits change?

INTJ - have taken this test repeatedly with the same results! By the way my wife is basically the exact freaking opposite of whatever INTJ is, like a totally emotionally-driven, extroverted beast. I suppose that's a separate topic for one of these other threads.

For what it's worth, I took this test before business school to help guide me with career selection. Prior to school I was in a job that totally chafed against my personality, and I hated it. Now I feel like I was born to do my current job (including the long-ass hours, because I essentially don't need sleep).

I've taken this test a few times before and gotten slightly different results- I always find a number of questions that I could go either way on or where I don't think Y or N is sufficient (e.g. I enjoy things that would label me an extrovert, but that doesn't mean I'm always comfortable being one). I'm sure everyone has some things like this. I'll have to take this another day and see if I get something else.

Regarding the extrovert part, one of my favorite quotes is, "The loudest one in the room is the weakest one in the room," so I'm not sure that makes me the biggest extrovert.

1)took this test thrice to prove it doesnt work and baam!! all 3 times it shows im an INTP which is true!! but some of those questions in it were basically where i was like comfortably between an absolute yes nd no.. any other test any1 know where they have weightage assigned or scale b/w an absolute yes n no cos that would be awesome!

2) for the so called stat that INTPs are rarest types this thread has a bucket load of them!! way to go INTP:-) is it that we are more suited to serious sounding & long hours sociopath profiles where we need not spend time with humanity!
