Where are my metalheads?

Used to listen to Linkin Park when I was an emo middle schooler and have gotten back into them along with Breaking Benjamin and Seether. I KNOW THESE AREN’T METAL BANDS

Started listening to Disturbed other than just Down With The Sickness and now love them. Got into Sabaton which is like my perfect band because I love history and power metal.

Discovered Powerwolf yesterday and holy fuck this music makes me feel ALIVE. Have listened to Amon Amarth in the past and fuck with them too, but Powerwolf is amazing.

Godsmack also slaps. Alter Bridge has some bangers as well. I don’t listen to rap that much anymore. Interesting how I went from “bitches and bottles” to “sanctified with dynamite”

not a huge fan of metal so unrelated, but the app isn't that great yet

I really enjoy pretty much everyone you listed, would also add Three Days Grace, Saliva, Drowning Pool, Korn, Five Finger Death Punch.

Isaiah have you ever met a person you can't relate with? Genuinely curious

haha good question - I usually have at a bit in common with most people I meet in some way.

Avenged Sevenfold got me through junior high 3

Slipknot, Architects, Bring Me the Horizon (not exactly sure if these guys are metal), Killswitch Engage, We Came As Romans, and Of Mice and Men are the metals bands I listen to these days.

I think Bring Me the Horizon would traditionally be considered Post Hardcore - my favorite Post Hardcore band is Pierce the Veil.

Love Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed (especially Immortalized), select FFDP, smaller progressive bands like Ayreon, Kamelot, Avantasia, Theocracy, Seventh Wonder, etc. If you want music that makes you feel alive check out Beast In Black, especially the From Hell With Love album. Listened to that more than anything at the gym. But my favorite all time is Dream Theater (metal or otherwise). If you want straight metal check out Train of Thought, more prog check out Octavarium, but overall their crown jewel is Images and Words - some of the best musicianship I've ever heard.

Right here, man! Love all kinds of metal. Was actually fortunate to see an awesome concert with Alter Bridge opening for Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed back in 2015 or so. Still love that stuff but have been really into black metal lately. Stuff like Darkthrone, Sunken, and Summoning have been really refreshing after listening to a ton of stuff like Metallica and Electric Wizard over the years.

You have to listen to Three Days Grace, the One-X album in particular, if you haven't listened to them - your mind will be blown. Another good one is Deftones, also Mastodon is pretty sick.

Yeah those ones are good, I think Over and Over is my favorite, Pain is a good one too. Honestly that whole album is full of bangers.

Ik it’s alt metal, but you have to listen to Tool. I listen to a disgusting amount of Tool. Tbh since I started listening to them a year ago, I stopped listening to every other genre that I used to (mostly rap).

Lateralus, Forty Six and 2, Pushit, Invincible, and The Pot are their best songs.

Whatever you do don't tell an actual (snobby) metalhead that you unironically like disturbed or linkin park

For metal I'm moreso a fan of the atmospheric subgenres - sludge, doom, gothic, prog etc. My Dying Bride was among the very first bands I ever listened to, along with porcupine tree and Converge. Draconian and katatonia are also solid doom outfits, love them. Lake of Tears are goth gods.

I would like to pretend I'm the average snob proghead but I never got into tool or opeth or any prog essential other than porcupine tree. Dream Theatre and Mastodon are my favourites here.

Though I don't think I'd ever be assimilated into black metal I still listen to Ulver's first record a lot. Love the atmospheric/gloomy vibes mixed up with black metal aggressive riffs and style. I just listened to Ethereal Shroud's new record yesterday and absolutely loved it. Last year was kind to blackers. Atmospheric black metal is actually quite good and a refresher from the typical shitty produced black metal.

Overall these are bands that have broken into the mainstream on their own. There are countless obscure bands that are amazing

Also check out the growing alt metal + shoegaze scene. Alcest, Deafheaven, Sadness. It's a bit more unorthodox and creative

If you're working from home stream Sunbather asap - it's such a beautiful record. I went to see deafheaven live once and it was one of the gloomiest nights of my life. The closer track, the pecan tree, will make you a sobbing mess.

Metal hits sometimes very different. The heavy guitars and melody mixed with the screams and lyrics, god it’sll good. Few of my favourites are: As I lay Dying, Slipknot, We Butter The Bread With Butter, Destrage, Gojira, and Bleed From Within.

Surprised not more love for the OG metal… Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth (tornado of souls is great), Motörhead, Judas Priest (still cranking out music, Evil Never Dies is awesome), Dio, Pantera, Slayer, etc

Also like Rammstein and Rob Zombie

I'm big on a lot of the classic metal like Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Megadeth. I like a decent amount of newer metal music too, and as much as people in the metal community like to shit on them I love Ghost.

Lots of good stuff here, plenty not named all across the various sub-genres - love it all including the darkest ugliest filth and the comically cheesy stuff.

Some old and new favorites on regular rotation not already mentioned include, and in no particular order or organization:

Machine Head, Between the Buried and Me, Trivium, Periphery, Baroness, Earth, Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Mr Bungle/Fantomas, Killer Be Killed, Dillinger Escape Plan, Ghost, Pelican, Isis, Meshuggah, Sepultura, Tribulation, High on Fire, Genghis Tron, Darkthrone, An Albatross, The Locust, Lamb of God, TesseracT, Behemoth, Nails, Whitechapel, Motörhead… could go on and on.

Massive music lover, classical, metal, jazz, hiphop, freestyle, rock, reggae, grunge and more. Below list is not necessarily all metal, but what I most often call my "angry young man music" regardless of the fact that I'm most often a happy old woman, LOL...

...plus Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Dio, Rainbow, Deep Purple, King Crimson aaaaaand the Big 4: Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth - have seen them all separately as well as all together at Yankee Stadium.

Really loving the 90s metal right now... Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill has has me absolutely ripped through some models. Definitely check that album out. Also shuffle through plenty of Korn Slayer Slipknot easy. If you like some of the darker side of metal that's not scremo but more growl like, check out Xibalba. Burn and Cold by them will make your hair stand

Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzie Osbourne, Slayer, Megadeath, ACDC, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.

Also really like powermetal. Love DragonForce - Highway to Oblivion.

I only listen to metal/rock (any song that has a sick solo or shreds) and a lot of EDM.

My Brother. My Captain. My King.

Been out of the loop for a while but this inspired me to go dig up a bunch of old favorites. Particularly second the doom/sludge/atmospheric recs. A list of stuff I'd recommend (irrespective of subgenre): Deathspell Omega, Isis, Neurosis, Jesu, The Angelic Process, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Overmars (Born Again specifically), Syven, Katatonia, Ea, Signs of Betrayal (the first two or three albums), Mastodon, Dirge, Gnaw Their Tongues, Agalloch, Nadja, Tesseract (the very early stuff), Ghost Brigade, Rosetta, Deafheaven, The Ocean.
