Experts networks: how much do experts earn?
Do you know how much do experts earn for each hour with a PE fund? I work in a PE fund and would be curious to know if this is remunerative

Experts (via GLG, Alphasights, etc.) usually get ~$500/call
What do these people provide insights to?
-
Whatever industry or company they work in or for.
Depends on their quality, but you'll usually see $100-500 an hour. More for really top-tier executives.
What fields do these experts work in?
I have been an expert for these firms and make $600/hr when I do them.
You can set your price depending on how many others you know that fit what they’re looking for. In my case, very few. The expert networks always cite a rate to you but it’s highly negotiable. Idk what they throw on top of my rate to the end client though.
Edit: Third Bridge was the one firm that pushed back on my rate and refused to budge, but I was contacted by two other expert networks for that same project that agreed to the $600. Client booked it through them instead. It was eye opening to me about the quality/differentiation across these businesses (mainly that there isn’t any). Don’t understand how they all continue to exist - Tegus at least added BamSEC/Canalyst so is making itself different.
The differentiation is minimal - I work at MBB and we always spin up 3 if not 4 networks for a DD. The only real variance is the degree to which they’ll custom source for you
I’ve had opportunities to do quite a few of these and can second the ranges being quoted in this thread. However, I’ve never interviewed because I didn’t want to be put in a compromising position of offering up MNPI even accidentally. Maybe this is my risk aversion speaking but a few hundred dollars isn’t worth potential legal trouble. I’m sure there are safeguards but it never seemed worth it to me.
For those who have been interviewed, how did you feel about legal risk and the interviews themselves?
The company I am frequently asked about is private and I’m a few years detached from it. It’s mostly PE funds and consultants talking to me, not public markets guys.
There are specific things I can’t/am not comfortable sharing about it but in my case it’s pretty clear-cut which bailed me out from some of your concerns.
Giving away MNPI is not really a concern on your part though is it, unless you're also charging a % of their profits. Concern there is mostly on breaching NDAs, and those have an expiry date.
Incorrect. “Tipping” is illegal as well.
GLG was about to go public, their gross margin was about 50% so the expert keeps on average half what you pay the network.
I set my rate to $1000/hr. I stopped doing it though because it's kind of a pain to use their scheduling thing. I use Guidepoint more than GLG though. GLG tried to make me go to $850/hr.
I’ve heard it’s around 50% of the bill rate you are charged
