Lateral as a PE VP?
I currently work at an industry-focused middle market PE firm (latest fund +$1B) and was offered to stay on as a VP. That being said, though I like the people, culture, and investing part of the job, I don't see myself over the long-term to focus on the industry vertical the firm specializes in.
Any thoughts if its worth to lateral now (pre-VP, likely as a Senior Associate) to a firm and industry vertical I'm more interested in or to stay on as a VP at my current firm and then make a lateral. My thought is that getting the VP title would be very helpful from a comp perspective when it comes to lateralling but I'm worried it would also pigeonhole me on the industry vertical that I'm not interested in. Thoughts?
