Tech IB to FinTech PE

I am currently in a generalist Tech IB role and considering moving to the buyside in FinTech PE. I am not sure I want to be in FinTech long term but it seems to be an interesting vertical. Is it a bad idea? Am I pigeonholing myself or can I switch back to a different tech vertical after a couple years if I don't like FinTech

I think good idea and possible to pivot back. I think the exp will make you better

You'll have no problem pivoting back to broader tech investing if you go into FinTech PE. In fact, I'd go a step further - nobody who is 26 years old is old enough to have been pigeonholed in one vertical.

If you're worried about getting pigeonholed, you can always join a tech PE firm or growth equity firm, and make your interest in FinTech known. That way you can get staffed on FinTech deals that come through, or if you're in growth equity, you can spend time sourcing in the FinTech vertical.
