Leaving CRE for Finance world

Has anyone successfully crossed over from CRE into Hedge Fund world? I'm an acquisitions associate in NYC RE but I could not be more jaded with the current cycle. Have been reading tons of trading books and feel I am now more interested in finance. I am 28 and considering going for my MBA. Anyone here happen to have any insight?

I would really think about it. A lot of "finance" guys end up wanting to go into real estate. The grass is always greener and don't forget that. Hedge funds are on their last leg (for now), meanwhile more and more money is going into real estate.

"but I could not be more jaded with the current cycle" - what makes you think you won't get equally if not more jaded working at a HF? Cross-asset correlation has pretty much gone to 1 during this credit cycle - I don't know that managers in other asset classes are having any more fun than real estate right now

That said, have you considered trying to make the jump within real estate to an HF? Off the top of my head, Baupost and Farallon have dedicated real estate strategies (assuming you could get in)
