How to make an ECM resume relevant for a Restructuring role?

The title says it all. I'm currently a first-year at a BB in their ECM group, got more interested in RX lately, and looking to make a switch sooner or later. Really appreciate it if anyone can shed any light on how to make my resume more relevant as currently, of course, all my deal experiences were equity transactions and I don't think I could pass the resume screen/ people would even reply to my cold emails given I'm in ECM. The only thing relevant I could think of is a Restructuring course I took back in college but not sure if I should put Relevant Coursework on my resume now given I already worked full-time for almost a year. Thanks a million!!

I would highlight whatever on the job experience you have had in dealing with troubled assets/challenging situations. Restructuring is usually something that comes with time and experience and 1 year in it’s hard to get that experience as usually the more experienced colleagues work on the toughest credit risk/workout issues.

Like the unadjusted- only with a little bit extra.

Do you actually like Rx or do you just want to do it because it’s the flavor of the week? On the surface ECM is having its worst year in a long time while Rx is off to a very hot start so it makes sense why someone would want to make this switch. Rx is very different from all of the other investment banking products though and ECM is arguably has much less commonality with it than DCM/LevFin/M&A. Not trying to sound like a dick here, but my Rx MD only hires laterals with previous Rx or Credit experience so it will likely be an uphill battle for you

Thank you for the honest input here really appreciate it! And yes I have thought of lateraling since before I started ECM. I took a Restructuring course in my senior year (after I already signed my FT ECM offer) and really liked it, so my interest is not out of the blue. But yeah as you said RX only hires folks with relevant skills which is what im trying to work on. I just don’t want my first job (a decision which I made when I was only a sophomore and didn’t know much) to dictate my whole career since I’m only 23 and would like to keep the mindset of exploring different opportunities to find what fits me the most.
