An Honest Question regarding CFA (Level 3/Choosing a Pathway)?
Hello there World.
I have an honest question regarding the CFA that pertains to Level 3.
I’ll take good advice from anyone. However, I am truly looking for opinions from Level 2 and Level 3 candidates.
The website link below (from 300 Hours.com) states that one’s choice of Level 3 pathways leads to the following careers depending on the pathway route chosen: https://300hours.com/cfa-level-3-specialized-pathways/#which-specialized-pathway-psm-combo-should-i-go-for
Pathway 1 - Portfolio Management: Portfolio manager, equity or credit analyst, investment strategist, hedge fund.
Pathway 2 - Private Markets: investment banking, M&A, corporate finance, corporate development, private equity, venture capital.
Pathway 3 - Private Wealth: wealth advisor, financial advisor, financial planner, relationship manager, investment advisor etc.
My question is, how accurate are people finding this in terms of the actual job market? Ie: if you chose ‘’Private Markets” out of a desire to get into Corporate Finance, for example, were you able to? How much did the structure of choosing a route add to your career? All along with any other combinations, anyone feels that they can contribute an opinion towards. Essentially I am asking did the specialization of a pathway make a difference in the long run now that the CFA is more specialized.
300 Hours.com is a good website. However, I just feel like there hasn’t been enough time to trust any of the online resources over another regarding the results of the pathways change in 2022. Hence I thought asking those doing the CFA itself is a better option before spending any time or money on it if I were to.
