Getting into IB from CMU?
Anyone here have any insight on Carnegie Mellon undergrad?
How well does it place into IB? How strong is the business program? What is the overall student experience there like?

Interesting - I haven't met any analysts who went there but it should be a school with a ton of smart students
We place 8-9 people in BB and EB banks every year. Very difficult. Few firms like Lazard MM and Gugg actively take CMU interns
Student experience is horrendous, better if part of a varsity sport or Greek life. Look for investment banking academy that’s usually our pipeline

Good school with solid brand name in general. I'd imagine it wouldn't be difficult to place at a reputable shop with some networking
Is cmu a fun school? Always had the impression the campus is full of dorks
I grew up in Pgh. Short answer is not at all. But it’s close to Pitt so make friends with them
if you’re in CMU CS then maybe you’ll land a TMT group offer.
We never had a TMT alum
More media telecom but no pure tech people
Have a couple at Evercore for 24 summer if that helps. I think it’s getting better
I'm late here, but I've worked with two people who have come out of CMU undergrad. They were a part of the investment banking club and said that being involved with that gave them connections to alumni who eventually placed them in interviews.
Don't expect companies to recruit on campus. You'll need to reach out to alumni in the industry and use that as your way into recruiting processes. It'll be a lot of work, but you can make that a part of "your story" that you tell in interviews.
