CFA®, FRM, CAIA, etc. How much extra qualifications is really enough?

Chanced upon some profiles in Linkedin. These people have so many extra qualifications like FRM, CFA® and CAIA.

I was thinking, do their jobs really require them to have these qualifications? Seems like overkill to me. What do you guys think? I can't imagine how much time they spent after working hours to study for these qualifications on their own.

Yea but Anil Kumar has the CV of a frickin' baaawsss!

He doesn't need them to be a baaawsss but sucessful people tend to like absorbing knowledge and are good at it. Thus he isn't sucessful because of them but because of his personality that makes him want to earn them. The others are either from the East where certs. are key.

Anil's education at universities is already freaking impressive.

Bsc from MIT, MBA from Harvard, double PHD, one from Carnegie Mellon and one from LSE.

I don't even want to talk about his work experience. Goldman Sachs, Solomon Brothers, Long Term Capital Management, Lehman brothers.

Makes me wonder CFA, FRM and CAIA are really necessary for him.

http://www.linkedin.com/in/davidhoberman and http://www.linkedin.com/pub/anil-kumar-cfp-cfa-frm-cpa-caia-mba-phd/18/… other than these two guys, everyone either work for regulator or in academia. These guys really need to get laid. A mentor of mine once told me that there is a major difference between education and knowledge. Education is passive learning. Knowledge is applying what you learn. All of these guys don't need all these certifications to do their jobs well.

This comes from a guy who wanted MBA+JD+CFA+CPA. Now I am done with all these titles (Other than CFA, I do not want any thing else). I only want to learn the bare minimum to maximize my earning potentials. Networking successfully both for self-education (via talking to other people) and career development (having referrals to get the job) are the most important things to me.

I don't know but that anil profile smells like elephant shit

I'm prob getting an mba eventually, but I think its super tacky to have a bunch of acronyms after my name in my business card/linked in name.

This guy's from another planet. As I was reading, I was sort of expecting to see LTCM at some point.

That Anil Kumar profile looks like one of those guys you see at a Memorial Day picnic wearing two medals of honor, a Navy SEAL trident, pilot wings, three Purple Hearts and 50 other medals. Not questioning the validity of his creds, but kind of stood out to me.

Yeah "0 Connections" tends to give it away as an obvious fake doesn't it With a profile like that I would expect at-least 500+ connections
