Getting a Head Start

I have just finished my freshman year of college and I am looking to get a head start on certifications. I am interested in a career in investments, but more specifically a career as a portfolio manager.

I would like to begin studying for the CFA® level one but I do not meet the requirements of four years work experience or an undergrad degree.

I am thinking of studying for the CIPM in the meantime, just to hopefully boraden my understanding of investment performance.

Should I hold off on the CFA® and begin studying for the CIPM? or are there other options for me to get a head start on my peers?

Write your Series 7.

Great idea. All OP has to do now is get a job with a FINRA registered sponsor to be eligible to take the 7.

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

Flake lol...

OP: FINRA tests will do nothing for you. Don't waste your time (and you can't take your 7). You won't learn anything and if you need one for an entry level job the firm will pay and sponsor you for it and won't expect you to have it.

I'm not a CFA so maybe a CFA can comment on this: I thought you could start taking the exams but you just needed the experience to get the full designation? Although sophomore year seems pretty early to start it but I could be wrong.

What you should do is work on getting good internships, grades and ec's.
