I got into UVA now what?

I just found out I got accepted to UVA and I am out-of-state so it was somewhat of a reach school for me. I will be going there this next fall and I was wondering what I can do now and when I get to college to prepare myself for IB. Are there any specific clubs, classes or frats I should join to network better? What kind of GPA do I need to have throughout college, straight A's? I'm really excited to go to college and I wanna set myself up the best I can for my career.

Congrats. Out of state admit to UVA is very impressive and quite an achievement. How about celebrating?!

You are 17 or 18. Very unlikely your plans/goals will remain unchanged throughout college and your career. As a 57 yr old who has seen many things in business and life, I can assure you there is no such thing as "have to get this internship or that first gig to work in IB, consulting, anything." So many different routes. While in school you should focus on experiencing all kinds of things, expanding your horizons, exploring your interests, making great friends, and working really hard. All in a balanced approach. Trust me, hiring managers don't want geeks who can only talk IB. They are the least interesting, most replaceable cog in the wheel. You'll be attending a truly amazing place. Get the most out of it all four years. It'll be over before you know it and you'll wish you spent more time doing X.

Again, Congrat! Big accomplishment.

State law requires 2/3 to 70%  be in state. Kind of like UNC although there % is higher (like 85%). The candidate pool for OOS is top notch too. We're out of state. S was his high schools' Jefferson Scholars nominee back in 2016. If you're not familiar, one of the most prestigious and competitive scholarship competitions out there. Invite only. Wasn't accepted into UVA.

Now you can ask Santa to buy you the fleshlight you always wanted because at least for the next 4 years you are going to stay a virgin

What exactly was the point of this comment? I'm just trying to help myself break into IB. I'm not interested in your opinion of the school I will be attending, I am very happy to be going there and I want to make the most of my next 4 years.

UVAs not a particularly hard school. Crush grades and transfer to a real target school.

Kidding. UVA is a great school and you’ll be able to break in. First and foremost, have some fun and get to know yourself a little better. Be real, genuine, and not a hardo. Connect with alums in different industries for informational interviews and be a sponge. You’ll be fine.

Do not think about IB for the next 9 months.

High schoolers who post here always get the same response to just chill in the beginning. If everybody is saying that, you should trust it. There will come a point where you realize time is running out to just chill.

Edit: Aight buddy, nobody's forcing you to chill. Be a hardo if you want.

Good work.

Seriously man, you are 17/18, how do you know if you want to do banking. Go spend the summer doing something you are passionate about, even if its in an area that you don't believe is highly lucrative. Go outside, explore, pick up a new skill. Robots don't go far in the world and you need to learn other traits.

Absolutely agree with others saying to forget about IB for the next 9 months. You don't need to come in as a freshman with any info or experience aside from an interest in finance. Yeah come September join the clubs, listen to the upperclassmen who just recruited and you'll get tailored advice for how to break in from UVA. This summer you should go work as a lifeguard, complete a personal project, play your sport, start a business, do anything fun - it's a completely free summer. I actually went and took summer classes early at my school and it was a blast. Went in with a thousand other freshman, took easy GE courses, everyone just focused on making friends and getting fucked up. I made all my closest college friends that summer and we still hang. Once fall came, I joined my school's finance club and started getting internships, prepping, networking etc. then interviewing a year after that.

You have more time than you think to break in. As long as you're taking the first steps before sophomore year you have a really solid shot from UVA. I'm from NoVa and a bunch of kids I graduated HS with ended up at UVA and placed fine. I went out of state and broke in no problem from a non-target. Don't stress about IB it's easier than ever to get a spot with so much information available for free online.
