which group in investment banking shall i choose?

Hi,all

I will join a T15 MBA program this year and want to apply for investment banking summer internship

i have 2 questions, hope to get some suggestions!

1) which group shall i apply for in IB? IB has group like FIG, energy, industrials, cpg &retail, m&a

my background:

  • consulting, withproject experience on auto finance, electric vehicle battery (only 1 project, not deep knowledge), renewable energy (biogas), commercial banking (only knowledge in credit card business)
  • digital strategy role in a fintech company (a subsidiary of an insurance group)
  • international, female
  • want to stay in new york for post mba
  • my interest: cpg and retail (cosmetics, clothing, without any experience)

Considering my background, interests and different group's exit, which group do u feel i am most competitive (could secure interview opportunity)?

2) which pre-mba internship shall i go to strengthen my resume?

Considering i can't find investment banking/PE internship in my country (these firms usually only allows current students to do intern), i can find venture capital internship (could get experience on cpg industry), do u suggest me to take it? if so, which industry do u suggest me to go? VCs have different industry focus.

thank you so much for any inputs!
