UT Mccombs Is Overrated (Sorry Mccombs Kids!).

Dear Mccombs students and alumni,

Please stop inflating your school brand. You do not go to a target. You are no better than the low semi-target kids who go to UNC, IU, and WF and inflate their brand like it's a true target. The average SAT is literally only like a 1380.

You need a 3.7+ gpa to get into banking at UT and most of these are O&G placements, which are getting KILLED right now. True target school kids can get a 3.4 and get into a BB or EB.

Most Mccombs kids will end up working in big 4 consulting, not IB/PE/HF like target school kids. This is still a great place to start career-wise, but let's relax with the target crap. Also, Mccombs kids make $65,000 average according to employment report (2019). This is literally less than the UNC, IU Kelley, and WF students which are low semi-target schools. Therefore, Mccombs is a very low semi or super high non target.

This is not to discourage prospective UT Mccombs students. Mccombs is a fabulous business program with nice placements. It's just not what useless interns in WSO make it out to be. So, please, Mccombs students and alum, tell an accurate representation of your school. Don't screw up a 17 year and make him pick UT over Umich Ross or NYU Stern.

Thanks.

OP says McCombs is a non-target, but literally put McCombs as a semi-target in his school ranking. Seems to just be fishing for controversy.

Look, I think it is established McCombs is a semi-target. In the threads asking if they should go to UT vs. Ross/Stern, pretty much everyone agrees to go to the other schools if money isn't an issue. But in reality, money is often an issue and paying in-state tuition at a college that provides the opportunity to be competitive for NY IB makes a lot of sense. Sure, McCombs doesn't offer the volume of NY placement as other schools, but the placement is significantly weighted toward EB placement.

You’re one of the worst posters on this site.

— not a UT alum

Why would you come on this site and post shit like this without offering any evidence? You’ve made a number of these posts and they hardly seem helpful. Good job making a kid second guess themself but put some evidence out there before proclaiming your ideas, which are seemingly pulled out of thin air.

You haven’t said anything about the specific programs in each school or Business Honors at UT. I’m not saying UT is better than Stern or Ross, quite the contrary. But these types of posts stress out people trying to make the right decision without offering anything to base their decision off of.

You should trust that a kid smart enough to get in and willing to pay for OOS tuition at UMich and UT are going to do their due diligence and make the best decision for themself. These types of posts just confuse and prolong that process.

UT BHP is a strong semi. It’s a low semi without the honors. I’m not destroying kids like you guys by telling people that Mccombs is some godly place. I say it’s great, just not the almighty biz school people make it out to be on wso
