DB FIC 1st round

just got invited for a first round at DB. I been hearing different stuff regarding the first round some have been saying it’s a typical behavioral interview and others have been saying it’s technical heavy.

Has anyone interviewed for DB in the past?

Based on previous WSO threads, first-round interviews can vary significantly depending on the division and the specific role. Here are some insights from different interview experiences:

  1. Behavioral Questions:

    • Many first-round interviews, especially for roles like Investment Banking, tend to focus on behavioral questions. Examples include:
      • "Tell me about a time when you had to explain complicated things to someone with little knowledge."
      • "Tell me about a time when you worked towards an important deadline."
      • "Talk about a time when you solved a problem and had to incorporate a diverse set of perspectives in the solution."
  2. Technical Questions:

    • Some interviews do include technical questions, especially for roles that require specific financial knowledge. Examples include:
      • "Walk me through a DCF."
      • Questions about WACC or PiK interest.
  3. Mixed Interviews:

    • It's also common to encounter a mix of both behavioral and technical questions. For example:
      • "Why UBS? What differentiates UBS?" (Behavioral)
      • "How do you keep up with current industry?" (Behavioral)
      • "What's the role of IT in a global bank?" (Technical)
  4. Specific Examples:

    • For JP Morgan CIB Risk, the first round included a mix of behavioral questions, current market data, and a stock pitch.
    • For lateral hires at firms like JPM Coverage (TMT/FIG), the first round included a mix of behavioral and technical questions.

Given the variability, it's best to prepare for both types of questions. Review your deal experience, general industry trends, and be ready to discuss both technical concepts and behavioral scenarios.

did you attend the prep session yesterday? they went over what we need to know

Interviewed last year - my first round was fairly behavioral, but my answers had some technical concepts mixed in, so that may be a reason why I didn’t get asked a direct technical question

this year they asked a couple questions off resume but it was mainly technicals
