Trade Ops Path

Hello all, I just got an offer for a trade ops position at a large bank. It is specifically in the derivative area.

I know all of the downsides of ops and how it’s not near as good as front office. I’m just wondering, what’s the career progression for ops with salary? Like 10 years from now?

Thank you!

Started in ops.. now in front office.. would recommend getting SIE, Series 3 or CFA if you’re interested as none of those require sponsorship.. get a good working knowledge of Python. Automate some stuff so you have practical knowledge. Go through some of the postings here regarding books to read if you want to go into trading. But while you’re in ops, understand how everything works. Communicate well with traders.. be the go to person for them.. and you’ll have a lot more informal relationship and can broach the subject of guidance and such.. show interest, if that’s what you want.. but also follow some Twitter folks and read their thoughts on current markets.. ask them questions as you ask questions here.. just show genuine interest..

Not really what you asked but for those who might be interested in going from ops to front office..

Never stuck around long enough in ops to give a perfect response regarding salary 10 yrs out..
