Amazon doesn't collect sales tax from third party sellers. This allows them to unfairly compete with brick and mortar. It robs the cities and states of tax revenue and puts physical stores out of business (that employ people).

Bezos should do himself a favor and shut the fuck up. Washington Post is worthless trash and Silicon Valley and their social manipulating bullshit is going to see a backlash.

Trump should have the DOJ start anti trust investigation on all these tech companies. Team up with Europe to ass fuck the on taxes.

Boo-Fucking-Hoo. If the government creates obstacles, then entrepreneurs will find a way to innovate around them. Now government might have to -- dare I say it -- REDUCE SPENDING(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Amazon has been one of the most beneficial companies of the last 15 years. My message to Trump and the brick-and-mortar stores is to eat shit and die quietly.

Bezos has cucked the socialists and crony-capitalists, and now they all hate him! Bahahahahahahaha.

Back to my AMZN prime shopping.

Amazon is a ponzi scheme. Doesn't anyone listen to me. How can you float free 2-days shipping and make a profit. It costs me like $25 bucks to overnight one piece of paper. Now I understand scale, but this is a kind of a problem that you can't make up with volume. Amazon is just run on new investor money in the hope of appreciation. Now they can sell EVERYTHING in the world but they will be negative, and yes they will run into anti-trust issues. Because the only way this model makes sense is to own all the production chain, it is not even close to profitable without it.

Apparently, Amazon's shipping costs are getting de facto subsidized by the USPS, although I back-of-the-envelope a subsidy of only $113 million.

http://fortune.com/2017/07/16/amazon-postal-service-subsidy/

Congress has barred USPS from setting its parcel prices below its costs, to keep it from unfairly undercutting competitors like FedEx and UPS. But the formula for calculating those costs, set in 2006, hasn’t kept pace as packages have come to make up a higher and higher percentage of USPS volume. The law set the share of infrastructure costs associated with packages at 5.5%, but boxes now make up around 25% of Postal Service revenue.

Sandbulte cites an April analysis by Citigroup that put a price tag on the resulting distortion. If package delivery bore its fair share of Postal Service system costs, each box would cost $1.46 more to deliver.

Trump will continue to bitch on twitter cuz WaPo will continue to report facts, he and his administration are shit so these facts will be negative facts. Trump doesn't give a shit about how Amazon affects retailers Trump only cares about Trump. Shills like TNA will continue to blindly support Trump no matter the situation, guarantee this sycophant didn't think twice about sales tax from third party sellers until his king mentioned AMZN. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone sometimes with this garbage.

Yea, because "Bezos should shut the fuck up" (I don't think I've even seen him comment on Trump) is a well-thought out and eloquent response meant to foster reasoned discussion and analysis. Fuck off and go MAGA.

In another thread I outlined the dangers of wiping a lot of the low skill/low wage jobs in our country and Amazon is definitely a contributor (and should be broken in half). As we saw the textile and manufacturing jobs exit overseas, now we're seeing retail go out the window too. While I agree that it's just part of technological innovation and cost efficiency, it's too fast of a rate for our economy to adjust to and it's also going to leave a lot of individuals without jobs. Not everyone is an Tech/Finance geek seeking to make it big and some enjoy getting by on the bare minimum. Will this clog up welfare and unemployment? Possibly. Soon enough it'll be the service industry but that may take some time.

As Jon Taffer would say - SHUT IT DOWN!

If you find yourself feeling lost, go climb a mountain.

So you want to shut down a business that provides a benefit to consumers (which is why it has grown so rapidly) with the government in order to support "the people"? This is some Fidel Castro/ Hugo Chavez bullshit. And I thought republicans were supposed to be pro-business and against govt overreach.

Slow your roll Bob, America first.

When Walmart came about, no one cared for the COUNTLESS local businesses that were forced to shut down due to not being able to compete with them. No problem right? We all get low prices!

When Amazon came about, no one cared for the medium to large sized shops that were forced to downsize or shut down due to not being able to compete with them. No problem right? We all get low prices and cheap shipping. (Walmart got the Walmart treatment - karma is kind of funny).

But what benefit does that provide for everyone aspiring to start their own business and make a living being an entrepreneur? Or the medium sized businesses that are finding one super company that is not only dominating their market but MULTIPLE markets. Amazon has become THE focal point for those with wish to utilize its platform and services. Brick and Mortars - good bye.

Aside from hurting small to medium sized businesses, it also hurts the job market. Instead of 5 firms employing 100 individuals each, you have 1 firm employing 200 total. That's 300 individuals without jobs. Although in the case of Amazon, it's more of thousands of jobs displaced for every 1 job of an Amazon warehouse worker at the local distribution center.

You mention the American consumer, how about the American CITIZEN because in the end, that's who's going to get hurt. The Government's job is to regulate and balance the impact of businesses in our country or else we'd have one single company providing all services, products, and utilities with millions without jobs that are forced to pay whatever non-competitive price that company charges.

If you find yourself feeling lost, go climb a mountain.
