Can you use offers to get off a wait-list/get a first round somewhere else?

If you've received an offer from a bulge bracket for example, and are waiting for a first round/final round interviewer from another bulge bracket, is it a good/bad idea to let the HR know at the other firm you've gotten an offer but want to peruse things with their bank and want to check on the status?

I've searched for this on here but just wanted to ask instead.

Yes it's a good idea if you really do have an offer. If you're still waiting after a superday call up HR, tell them that this position is your first choice but you need to know ASAP because you have another offer and need to make a decision.

givemeajobpleaseWhat if you have a good amount of time with the offer you received?

My school is part of on campus recruiting and we have contracts with the banks requiring them to allow us to I think make a decision 2 weeks from the date of the offer - so it's not exploding by any means.

2 weeks is not a lot of time. If they are willing to expedite the super day, you may not hear back from them until a week after you interview. If they really want you though, they'll let you know as soon as possible because they know you have an exploding offer.

2 weeks isn't a lot of time. I would do it if you really want this offer. It could bring you from being borderline to getting it. It certainly won't hurt as long as you're tactful.
