IB - Houston Bonus Thread
Would be interested to know how the bonuses are turning out to be in Houston this year given all the events that have occurred.
An answer in the following template would be much appreciated:
Position: Ex. AN1
Bank: MM/BB/EB
Bucket: Top/Mid/Bottom
Base:
Bonus:
Thank you!
Might be good to give prior year's comp as well for comparison-- if possible

AN1 BB Top 85 60
Received 10k base increase heading into second year, hopefully slight bump in bonus - but people are saying 2021 cycle is where the covid effect will hit harder so not holding breath. Still working a ton of hours on “live” deals, none will happen
are they saying the 2021 cycle will see a worse effect because the debt walls of the companies have just been pushed back and not eliminated?
That’s a good thing for banks- kick the can down the road and get paid for the new notes and tendering the old ones. In low interest rate environment banks (mine including) have cleaned up in the debt capital markets. I think the sentiment with 2021 being worse is because we pay bonuses for analysts on a June cycle, so when we got paid our bonus last year covid was really only a factor for about 2 months beforehand - this June it will have been a full year of covid-induced cost reductions for lots of banks
bump
Adding my two cents here -- at least at my bank, these convos aren't happening for another month for associates, then June for analysts.

Received 15k increase in base going into 2nd year, bonus will jump at least 10-15k as well
Is this Lazard?
Has to be. EVR is typically 6 figures for analysts in Houston + TPH/PWP pays above this + Moelis has strong com
GHL is the other “EB” but don’t think their analyst class is that large
This is shockingly low. What shop is this?
Anyone have a word on BB comps? What do buckets traditionally look like?
Barc???
Also interested
I think Barc and JPM Houston historically pay below street
Is this in Houston specifically or are you saying across the board?
Interested in MM/EB comps
MM AN1 - 75 bonus
Jefferies?
negative, slightly lower tier
Was this top bucket?
yeah
Are Houston bonus buckets different from NYC?
At my MM, no buckets and comp is higher than NY
you have any idea what the bonuses were like for the other HOU banks?
Do whales shit in the ocean?
Any info on Jef HOU numbers this past summer?
Jef HOU doesn't pay the same as it used to. Expect pay to be at street or a touch higher with much worse WLB.
"EB" / AN1 / 90 bonus
TPH?

Has to be given other comments in the thread. That’s a please leave bonus - right?

Truist I believe
Truist pays this much?
Lmao no chance. What have they even done recently?
Know at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the JPM Houston analyst class was between 12.5k - mid 30k YE bonus. Big yikes.
any insight on intrepid? bonus wise and generally
Also wondering
Extremely fratty is how I would describe it. Interacted with a few folks from there recently and that group is the definition of work hard and party harder. Apparently they passed around smelling salts for the interns this past summer lol. Also have heard about rampant use of drugs in the office.
Having said, the President/co founder is Skip McGee who is right up there amongst some of the best Energy bankers ever. The got some pretty cool mandates through their partnership with Rothschild for rx mandates.
Any idea on comp?
Blatantly untrue. Have a close friend there.
Any insight of Bofa all in comp for first years?
In line with JPM, Barc, etc.
any idea for a ballpark for 1st years (all-in)?
Definitely not in line with JPM (at least 1/3 of their class got 40k).
can someone elaborate on how bad EVR Houston is (comp obviously good / above street) but have heard culture has gotten brutal and all 2nd year analysts left
Nearly every analyst has left including 1st and 2nd years. They are in dire need of juniors. Pay is well above street. Depending on the group, expect 20 hour work days during the week, but decent weekends. They recruit solid guys, but they're poached within 8 months.
A lot of those exits have been to pretty average places, so you're not even getting a great job on the other side. Would steer clear
If there ever was a sweatshop. 9ams to 3am is a regular thing and there is no real acknowledgement either asides from throwing some cash.
hands down worst work life balance along with GS
Who are the top BBs in terms of bonus comp?
GS / MS historically pay a discount. I would guess Citi or Barclays. Maybe BAML but can’t speak to their buckets.
EBs have always paid higher than BB in Houston for quite some time.
Any data points from previous years?
Should I coming SAs be worried about a career in energy?

Any idea on Wells?
Also wondering
Typical PE comp in energy ? Referring to places like NGP, Encap, Quantum, etc.
$250-$300k all-in for a first-year associate.
Even now with the declining performance of these funds?
Anyone know TPH base and bonus for analysts and associates?
Any info on recent bonus numbers for JEF houston?
