Need Help With a Career Path
So first off here's my situation: I am entering my junior year in Finance. I previously went to a non-target school where I got little guidance, but am now transferring to a semi-target/target (Think Ross-level). I wasn't so set on my career path at the beginning of college- I went back and forth from economics, finance, accounting, etc... Once I was set on finance (Earlier this year), I decided to apply to a school that's more friendly to finance students and more of a target. I never got an internship related to finance and am now entering my Junior year with no finance experience under my belt (not even clubs since I went to a commuter school and had a four-hour commute each day)
The thing that I have going for me is that I managed to keep a perfect 4.0 GPA and am now entering a semi-target/target. Ideally, I'd like to go into IB- but given the competitiveness, I feel like I'm way behind in the process and my chances are slim to none. I'm planning to apply for IB internships, but I am aware of my chances. I've been feeling lost in a sense because of the uncertainty. I am about to take out a large amount of money in loans, and am honestly concerned at the value given that I have a slim chance at IB. I don't want to come out of college with nearly six figures in loans with the same path as my last college (destined for back office with little chance to move up).
My question is, how can I establish a backup plan that maximizes future earnings and reality. Should I try for wealth management-specific internships? How can I keep my options open in the finance field? How can I maximize my potential route?
