Columbia MSRED.... Acceptance Requirements

I will be taking the GMAT exam in 2 weeks and applying to the Columbia MSRED program for the upcoming Summer 2018 semester. I graduated from a mid tier undergrad program with a 3.43 GPA, after which I started an Ops position at a top 10 asset management firm (in terms of AUM), where I have been for 1 year 9 months at this point. I don't have any formal experience in the RE industry.

My question is, what does it take to be accepted into the Columbia MSRED program? What have students scored on the GMAT, and what score should I be aiming for? What type of recommenders do they value, etc.

Thank you in advance!

I graduated from the program and I can tell you dont need to have a rigid background in RE buttttt your odds are better if you have a RE adjacent background (finance, architecture, construction etc.) applicable skills. You still have time as an undergrad so take courses that are RE focused at Rutgers and get real estate on your resume as much as possible...internships or whatever. I think you will have better odds after you graduate and work 2-3 years in a real estate related industry and honestly, you'll get more out of the program at that point than you would straight out of school. Good luck.

It was perfect for me bc I had a finance degree from undergrad and I had grown up in a family construction business in the city. The program tied those two things together and gave me insight into CRE at a macro level. I loved it and it helped me get a job very quickly in acquisitions first for a REIT then a $13B family office/PE fund. I wasn't getting in to either without the program.

I wouldn't focus on your GPA at this point I would focus on getting more relevant real estate experience. Brokerage is really just salesmanship so you need to work on a skill set that can apply to real estate development/investment. As an undergrad you still have time to make a switch but that will be far more important to the program than your GPA. Good luck!
