Although it's only a first round interview, the technical questions were more intense than I thought. On top of my head:
- Walk through DCF + explain the assumptions behind it
- if pick up 10 bucks, what happens to EV
- unlevered vs levered dcf
- exp last internship
- ubs' recent deal
- why ubs
Interview Questions
Prolly assumptions behind the DCF (like deep walkthough level)

1. Initial Communications & Online Assessment
The process began via the UBS Global Careers portal. Shortly after the application, I was invited to complete the UBS Cultural Appraiser and a series of cognitive assessments.

The Cultural Appraiser: This is a situational judgment test. UBS places a heavy emphasis on its corporate culture. The questions focused on integrity, collaboration, and ethical decision-making in a professional environment.

Cognitive Tests: These included numerical, inductive, and logical reasoning. The math was standard for quantitative profiles, but the tight time limits require high focus and mental agility.

2. Interview Stages & Organization
Stage 1: Group Assessment & Case Study
The first interactive stage was a group dynamic held at the local office.

The Case: Candidates were given a complex business scenario involving portfolio management and client strategy.

The Dynamics: The recruiters looked for "collaborative challengers"—individuals who could contribute strong analytical logic to the group while maintaining the "One UBS" spirit of teamwork. It is more about how you interact with the team than just finding the right number.

Stage 2: Technical & Behavioral Rounds
This stage involved back-to-back interviews with Associates and Directors from the specific business unit.

Technical Focus: Since I have an analytical background, they challenged me with Guesstimates and core financial concepts, such as Valuation (DCF and multiples) and market infrastructure.

The "Why Finance?" Question: They were very interested in my transition from a technical field to banking. I focused on how the analytical rigor of my degree translates to financial modeling and data-driven decision-making.

Stage 3: The Final Round (Managing Director)
The final interview was with a Managing Director. This was centered on Cultural Fit and Macro-Economic Vision.

Key Discussion: We discussed current market volatility and how global events impact local operations.

Innovation: I highlighted my interest in process automation and data science applications in finance. They seemed very receptive to candidates who want to bring more digitalization to the bank’s legacy processes.

Background Check
Interview
This was a bit of a unique situation because this specific group partners with my university's career office. Essentially, my university has this program where we could intern at a company for school credit, and a bunch of different companies participate, and this was one of them. We still had to apply of course, but the firms receive our resumes and choose between just a select group of students. Anyways, after an email from one of the associates, I had a teams meeting with the hiring manager and was hired on the spot. All behavioral questions, no technical questions at all.
Interview Questions
Again, there wasn't anything difficult about the interview because the only questions asked were behavioral ones, like "walk me through your resume".

For Sales and Trading, it is hirevue then straight to Superday. UBS hires by desks, so different people get shortlisted for different desks. Questions will largely be based on your CV.
I was also asked brainteasers such as 1000/27 to 2 decimal places. General market questions, such as asset class most affected by a drop in interest rates were also asked. Expect to get the superday months after submitting the hirevue, but offers from superday are released within 2-3 days.
Interview Questions
