Blackrock ETF and Index Investing Division
Hey, I just got an offer for a summer intern position and would like to know if anyone on here knows much about the ETF and Index Investing Team. Reputation, culture, exit opportunities etc, I’d be happy to hear about any kind of experience. I have also received an offer for S&T at another bank so idk what is better. Thanks.
HEY! Congrats that's a great group. I have a friend whose waiting still.
When did you do your AC and hear back? I am waiting on Blackrock alts
Did my final round around 2 weeks ago and just heard back yesterday so took a while to hear back.
Congratulations.
Did you go through the accelerator program?
Currently work in EII. On the whole, the group is the industry leader in the space. It's more up to you whether you like those products and this area. I think a lot of prospects are more passionate about bottom up fundamental analysis, of which you'll be doing 0. The vast majority of people in EII are also in sales/product teams. BlackRock is a great employer to work for. The salary will be good but not great. Will not be comparable to banking. Exit ops - depends more on the exact role you end up doing. I would say in general people view these jobs as the exit op.
How would you compare it to Sales and Trading in terms of long term career progression and salary? In addition, what's the progression like, like do you stay as an analyst for a long time or something?
I suspect Sales and Trading would be higher pay at the junior levels (and longer hours). Around VP or Director they would start to be equivalent. Progression is similar, 2-3 years Analyst, 2-3 years Associate. Associate to VP and higher promotions are more difficult and not a given - but that's not dissimilar to S&T.
There are nuanced differences between working sell-side and buyside though in terms of work ownership, product ownership, the external relationships, etc. In saying that you can't really go wrong with any of those options, if you work hard and prove yourself you'll find success.
Would you mind PMing me as I am interested in finding out more about ETF and Index Investing at BlackRock (specifically in a Portfolio Manager role)?
Does blackrock normally give out offers late. Almost 3 months after my final round and the only email I've gotten is hiring decisions are still being made.
Take the sell side gig.
Unless the bank is tier 3 I’d say take the S&T offer. You can always go to BlackRock EII later on if you want to but in the meantime you’ll have earned and learned more.
