Do Hedge Funds take PhDs in History? Or should I go straight from undergrad?
Hi, I just graduated from high school. I started learning about HF/PE/VC(Basically buy side careers) when I was a sophomore. I am going to the University of Pennsylvania(dual degree, BA in History and BS in Economics-Wharton). I want to pursue a career in HF/PE/VC, but I also really want to get a PhD in History before I enter workforce. I just want to ask whether HF/PE/VC takes PhDs in History(since it's not math or econ or stats etc)? Or should I just go to HF/PE/VC right after graduating undergrad at UPenn? Thanks.
those are going to be pretty mutually exclusive if you choose the history route. very difficult to get any job with a humanities PHD. best way to do it is to go into industry first, make money and find what you want to research, then do the PhD
Thanks! Got it.
You should spend time reading about the differences between HF, PE, and VC to see which one you're interested in. The earlier you understand, the more of a head start you will have against your peers. Just my .02. Enjoy your time at Penn and good luck.
