18 Year Old here With Questions

I have just graduated high school, and due to slacking off and getting bad grades, I will be attending community college in the fall.

My plan is to get into IB, so what I am planning to do is do 2 years at community college, and then transfer into either Berkley-Haas, or USC-Marshall, Haas is my first choice.

The community college I will be attending offers Business administration and Economics for the AA before I transfer, it doesn't have finance, so I'm thinking I should chose Economics, is that correct?

Thanks, guys.

Go look up the transfer requirements on Haas's website. I don't think it matters what your AA will be in, as long as you complete all the pre-reqs prior to your transfer. I hope you are planning on getting 4.0s and having amazing internships/activities. Frankly, even if you do get into Haas, you will face a lot of competition getting into a BB, especially for the summer. Those spots are usually taken by students with high Berkeley (not JC) GPAs, strong networks, and relevant sophmore internships. Good luck.

Thanks for the response.

Isn't Haas better than UCLA or Claremont?

Also, what steps would you take to get a decent inern job with a 4.0 from community college sophmore year?...without any connections.

Thanks in advance.

I took this path so I'll offer some advice -

If you think you could still maintain a high GPA then try to finish the transfer requirements in 3 semesters so you can transfer in earlier.

Don't worry about your AA at all, just do your transfer requirements and nothing more. Each school has very different requirements so know them well.

Community college is incredibly easy, but don't let it get to you. It's easy to slack off because you feel that it's a joke. Be careful. If you do mess up, talk to your professors and ask them to help you out.

As far as an internship out of CC, I think it will be extremely difficult. So try to get the hell out of CC as soon as you can. Once you get into a decent school, take a double major to delay your graduation. That way you get an extra summer to do an internship, in addition to buying time to build your extracurriculars and move up in organizations.

pezzonovante has it right, make sure you dont slack off and get above a 3.7 in CC anything less it will be very hard to get into those b-schools.You will be going up against people who are much more qualified than you so make sure you stand out. Do a lot of volunteer work. This is a great route to take because like you I didn’t try in high school I don’t know something about sitting in school for six hours just wasn’t for me but when I got to CC I loved it. I transferred to UVA and it worked out for me. so good luck student5477
