2018 IB Internship Confusion

Hey monkeys,

I found myself interviewing with a local investment bank this week and the process is very strange. Here's what happened. A PE partner referred me to Boutique MD. Boutique MD says

" Talk to X VP and if things go well we'll have you come in."

Set up call with VP and things go well. VP tells me

" You should talk to some of the other analyst involved with the process." Refers me to an analyst who interviews me. This is a bit more rigid with some technicals. This analyst tells me

" I'll forward your information to Analyst #2 he also went to x university. Set up a call. We'll be making decisions tomorrow. We're late in the process."

I can't tell if I'm moving forward or backward in this process. I thought that I would be going to the office. Can anyone make sense of this? Similar experiences? Thanks.

The MD noted that the VP was in charge. However, it looks the VP and the analysts will make the decision on who to bring in. Thanks for the response. Trying to get this offer haha.
