2021 Bonus / comp thread
Any communication so far? Whether directional or specific numbers.
I know traditionally RBC goes first - are we a month out from there?

Very early. JEF is one the first to report and that's expected in mid December
It will be less than you expect
Any data points to share?
Didn’t bonuses come out in august?
Analyst numbers go out then. Everybody else has numbers day in December.
That's not 100% true. A good number of us won't know until mid-January, that's when this thread traditionally really gets rolling.
Numbers coming in a few weeks...
I was told mid-late January. But then again I'm a lowly peasant.
Aren't we all...
Some Canadian banks are releasing numbers this week...
My guess is the numbers are all time highs. The banks keep compensation expense locked as a piece of revenue. Revenue is at all time highs.
Numbers are being given at RBC this week - so far reports are bonuses are very very high
Any actual data points for “very very high”?
didn't mean to write very twice. think it's very high in context of the bank; have heard VP1 mid bucket at $350k plus
any figures you can share/? lol
Hoping it’s good, fingers crossed
Stub Associate
Base increased to 175k
Bonus - 50k
BB?
Canadian
What was your base before this bonus?
Bonuses Canadian
Assoc 1: 150-195
assoc2 : 190- 230
assoc: 245 - 275
vp1: 280 - 455 (yes 455)
Great year overall and bonuses seems to be at 1x of salary minimum
Is this in USD or CAD?
USD
Damn Kind of make me want to try harder for associate.
When is PWP PJT Lazard Evercore Greenhill?
Anyone have analyst numbers?
bruh we in the summer get back to turnin we got another 7 months...
Pls see markup for latest comments. Doesn't have to be turned tonight - tomorrow AM (first thing) is fine. Thx.
GS VP - Bonus should be 450k
VP1? Base 250 means 700 all in. Very nice
When does GS pay bonuses? Isn't it in Q1? Everyone speculates about bonuses before receiving but with wildly different degrees of accuracy.
GS doesn’t communicate comp until mid-Jan, so really do question the accuracy here
Who has more associate comp numbers from Canadian banks
Associate 1 - $225k (surprised af)
Wow. USD?
Amazing. Nice job
Congrats! BB?
Did jefferies announce?
Yes - apparently associates are not happy...
What are the numbers like?
Anyone work at Qatalyst? will An1 total comp be 250k this year?
edit: MS thrown by another salty non-Qatalyst/Centerview analyst
Jefferies numbers?
In Europe, for ASOs/VPs flat yoy. Money went to ANLs/MDs. Will be interesting to see if mgmt did the right thing or if all the VPs leave.
What's the skinny on analyst comp
Surprised at Associate. Less exits for VPs but associates can jump ship pretty quickly
From what I've heard, some got paid extremely well and some were underwhelmed (though still up incrementally). The more senior, the bigger the bump versus last year. VPs and SVPs bonuses seem to be up ~30-60%.
VP3, and just informed I was top bucket + promoted in review… at one of the last that pay. Need to temper expectations I think, as they have always been low with my bank… but here’s hoping. Curious to see what all-in numbers some other VP2s/3s see.
GL all
Congrats
Congratulations on the promotion! Any insights you can share with numbers, or are those still TBD?
Numbers will come in due course, but the pools were yet to be confirmed. Sadly my bank are one of the last, so have to wait that out.
VP2 numbers for my 2020 year were $550 all-in, as reference.
This is a useless post
RBC VP1 - 350 to 450k bonus, base bump to $275k (up 25k). Associates got high numbers as well, hearing around $300k for top bucket AS3
That is nuts. Thanks for the Data points
How much for associate 1?
believe it's $175 - 225k
awesome!! what's the VP1 bonus range generally at BBs and EBs?
precovid was like 250 to 300 at BBs and about 100k higher at EBs
This is nuts!!
Associate 2. $250-275k bonus.
Congrats. Mind me asking what type of Bank?
Off to an amazing start, great to see.
Any other comps for associate stub bonuses?
I think this post is going to start slapping here soon.
Bump
$50k at mine. Flat so Doesn’t seem like stubs saw the jump in line with the full years
thought stubs were typically $40k
Stub Associate
50k sign on
175k base
50k stub bonus
Are these 50k stub at a BB or EB?
MM
A2A or MBA?
Any insight into how this compares to past years? When is it paid out?
Does anyone have numbers for Centerview analysts this year?
Confirmed- some associates making $500k+ all in
What kind of bank - one that generally pays below / at / above street? Thanks
Has to be EBS and ASO 3
Bump
Any Associate or VP numbers from Jefferies? See folks mention Associates weren’t happy, but hard to judge without data
bump
Bump
.
I'll make the same post I have to make every year - everyone needs to calm down. The majority of US banks won't communicate numbers until mid-January and 90% of this thread is purely speculative until after the first of the year. Let's all just calm down and give it another 2-3 weeks here and this thread will really get rolling at that time.
Worthless post. RBC + Jefferies + other Canadian banks already sent out numbers
people should obviously post as they hear
You'll note that I said that US banks would report later and 90% of the thread was useless. The remainder is to account for the Canadian numbers that are out. Try and keep up, ok?
This guy again lmao. Totally useless comment. To be expected from a back office shlub
Hey guys - as you receive bonuses, talk to friends, and compare on this forum - remember that there are still not standard promo cycles. Some banks are 3 year analyst cycles, some are 2.5, I think some are even 2. And then at associate some weird things happen as well, with stubs or not, 3 vs 3.5 vs 4, heard Goldman has some Associate zero thing, etc. Basically I think it can take anywhere from 5-6.5 years to make VP.
So just keep in mind it’s tough to broadly compare Asssociate I comp for instance, without that promo cycle info.
Always a good reminder, but also helpful to have a range.
Lol guys. Pretty benign comment, trying to just give a reminder for thinking through differences in comp, not saying don’t post comp info… I’ll share mine when I get it.

Heard from a friend that Lincoln is at $500+ all-in for ASO3.
Can anyone corroborate? Why the MS? Guessing untrue?
Honestly shocked by the MS. Heard from a friend at Lincoln myself.
confirmed. friend is an AS2 there.
Bump
Did RBC really pay associate bonus of ~150% or was that Jefferies reported above?
Feels like that would be big news
the number is variable whether you use bumped salaries or not. but top 3rd years pulled $300k+ bonuses.
Bump
A couple more weeks
Always looking for more information
Do we know comps date yet? Heard citi has announced
Citi has not announced yet. Potentially someone heard something early but no one that I know has heard (at least at the associate level).
Citi announces next week
Following
Bump
BBs typically communicate comp on the day of Q4 earnings announcement. EB nos. come out between Jan-end through Feb-mid.
Bump
Bump
MS announcing on Jan 14th
nope jan 13
Yeah Thursday, mixed up the dates
Generally speaking I think most BBs communicate the same day (or close to) when they report their Q4 earnings… think a handful of banks report this Friday so suspect we will get some data points soon
Not IB, but VP1 in CB in a Sales/Originations role. Getting $125K.
What’s your base?
Edited for clarity:
Aso1 (1st non stub year), Total Comp: $400, ~$225 Bonus on $175 base, EB
Actual bonus numbers slightly higher due to midyear increase in base but you get the idea
What does this mean
Lol yeah exactly
Think he’s saying that the bonuses % of salary is the same as it used to be (the above is 25% which isn’t unheard of for top bucket) and since base salaries were increased over the summer, the total bonus number is higher
In the PJT/LAZ/EVR/MOE group?
not LAZ/EVR since their As1 are paid 200 base
How have your hours been the past year / could you have made time for the gym several times a week?
I’m at Barclays, strong background all around and thinking of lateraling to another shop for associate stint. Been here for WLB/culture > pay but it’s been really rough so I’m saying fuck it and would rather be paid more if I’m getting worked, and my YE bonus is shite in 5 months or whatever.
How bad YE comp are we talkin?
I don't think any worse or better than any of my friends across the street.
Of course I could have made time for the gym - but that's every associate at any bank. You control your own time for the most part and if you want to cut out, it's very easily done. Obviously there are situations but if you plan well and manage up it should be easy.
Your communication skills clearly are not what got you top bucket haha...
Any idea when is JPMC's comp day?
Tuesday the 18th
MS claiming 20% more bonus? Doesn't look like the performance and bonus is very proportional anymore given the record year. Though strangely BOFA have mentioned 40% despite poorer performance
Didn’t Jefferies only raise 7%?
BofA performed poorer? Thought they did pretty decent
BofA is probably starting from a low bonus comparison in 2021. Heard from a lot of folks that they were unhapapy with their bonuses last year
WF numbers come out January 14, paid on February 4
WF numbers come out 1/28 and paid on 2/4
Don’t year-end reviews start next week?
MS / Citi. Hot sector coverage. Asso2 all in 335K. Disappointed
Thanks for sharing and sorry to hear you’re disappointed. For context, what would you have expected in a “typical” year to figure out what % higher this is?
Very disappointing. This is similar to what associate 2 got paid in 2015/2016.
Has to be citi
What is your base salary and what kind of rating did you receive?
That’s must be incredibly disappointing. As1 at Canadian bank and got $370k all in.
Has to be RBC - at the other Canada bank and got the 3 handle on the dot… quite disappointed
Come on over to the boutiques - our Asso1's got at least 50k more than that.
