2nd Year RX Analyst - Exit Opps
Long-time lurker on the forum, any thoughts on my current situation would be appreciated.
Currently an A2 in rx at PJT / HL / EVR and contemplating my exit opportunities as I feel like the distressed space is not where I want to be in the long term.
Does anyone have insight into instances where an rx analyst moved back to a BB for a more traditional banking role? While rx is definitely a more technical role and some of the financial analysis is transferable to any banking group, would one be at a disadvantage given the processes in rx are very different? What would be the learning curve if I were to join a coverage / M&A group at a BB?
Finally, how much do corporates / start-ups value rx experience over someone with coverage group experience in the relevant industry?
Any inputs would be immensely helpful.

As far as recruiting as an a2 corp dev gigs are always an option and you’ll definitely be a top candidate. PE is definitely possible.
From ppl I’ve spoken with who are 6+ years out of college at Corp dev, they said itsmore optimal to do 4 years (ideally 2 IB 2 pe) for Corp gigs as you can enter in some levels higher and it’s a fat pay jump from just a regular analyst associate role
I’m not sure being in RX will make u better for Corp dev but it will if u get a better PE rooe
Why not stay in RX at your current bank? Assuming it’s an EB, your all-in will be much higher than BB comp.
At any of those groups (at those specific banks) you'll get good looks for traditional buyout PE funds - just reach out to recruiters, they'll be happy to talk to you
Not to highjack his thread but Analyst at a top LevFin shop (BofA/CS), looking to move to the M&A side (been there for 6 months and just getting bored of doing S&U PF Captables all day with some basic LBOs), I would rather focus on the operational aspects of M&A where you dig deeper into companies.
What are your thoughts on such a move? Speak to recruiters? Move after my bonus in June?
