Advice to Rising Undergraduate Sophomore

I am going to be a sophomore finance/economics sophomore at a Rutgers Business School in september 2018. I am interested in getting a good internship at a well-known institution for summer 2019. Any advice on what I should do this summer, what are good places what would hire a sophomore? etc. etc.

Some banks have sophomore programs, but it might not be for you (if you're a white male which I'm assuming). The first thing that helped me, was the take off cycle internships during the school year. Also, get good grades and network. To be honest, it will be really hard for you to get a name brand on your resume unless it's for PWM or Ops, which would still be hard. Just network starting now and good luck.

Thank you for all the advice! Ironically, I'm not a white male! My profile is south asian female - not sure how much that can benefit/harm. -Would you be able to expand on "take off cycle internships"? -I'm definitely working on building my network. Do you have any tips or advice on networking, I have cold emailed/message and have gotten no replies thus far, I'm not sure what to do. Everyone who I've spoken to says the same thing: network. -Could you provide any other advice, feedback, tricks? Or even resources you find useful while networking or interviewing? really anything at all for a student trying to make their way into financial services? Any feedback is greatly appreciated
