No, you're not. Apply to other internships in the Finance field that aren't solely investment banking. If you still don't have any offers, do something that interests you but is also productive. The last thing you want to do is give up and not accomplish anything over the summer.
I dont mean give up on a summer internship, but i mean give up on trying to break into banking.
For example, what if this summer I interned at SC Johnson within finance, will my chances of breaking into banking still be close to 0?
Depends where you went to school and what your CV looks like. I didn't get a SA internship and full time was tough but worked out.
Do you have any internship roles on your CV? If not, definitely take the F500 opportunity. You still have a shot your senior year for a summer analyst position. Also, don't only apply to BBs. Look for regional banks to apply to either through any connections you have (alumni, family friends) or just straight up cold calling. Nother wrong with that.

Hello,
I'm a recent graduate (class of 2017) from a top 40 university which I attended on a full academic scholarship. I had a GPA over 3.8 and graduated magna cum laude. The summer before my senior year, I interned in the data analytics deptartment of Hillary Clinton's campaign.
In addition to having taken courses in financial mathematics and applied statistics, I've taken intermediate economics courses and an advanced econometrics course. I know that I'll be able to get excellent references from both past employers and my professors.
Additionally, I'm fluent and python and pretty damn good with excel. I'm currently working in a job where I have to use excel every day.
I'm looking to get a job in finance because I want to have a career that's dynamic and challenging. I'd like to work and compete with motivated, competent people. I feel as though my resume is, in many ways, impressive, but I don't have any work experience in the industry. I was wondering if someone could give me some advice about how to proceed and land a decent job.

Throughout the process, you should be preparing your story and practicing your interview skills. I find talking through behavioral and technical questions out loud is good practice.

Banking With No Intern Experience (Originally Posted: 04/01/2017)
Seeking advice for IB and other finance industries. I am currently a senior in undergrad and I am a college student-athlete. I had a very successful athletics career but was unable to intern in finance or IB due to my schedule of tournaments. What would you do in my shoes? I am also from a top 10 school. I'd imagine it's hard to break into the industry by simply applying without connections in the company.

Well, I wasn't a student athlete but I remember reading similar threads in the past (might be worth trying to search for those) - I think the gist of most of the advice was that you somehow have to craft / parlay the 'athlete' part of your experience into being an actual experience worthy of passing the resume-review stage so you can reach the interview/super-day stage for the IB. Maybe emphasize the teamwork aspect, the leadership aspect, or the hard work aspect... I think it will definitely make you stand out but there has to be a story there (assuming you can get into the interview stage). Maybe try a linkedin search for alumi from your school who were also involved in the athletics program who are now in the finance industry, might be a small result but all it takes is one person to identify with your experience. Especially coming from a top 10 school, I think you'll be ok.

Hi, I am a recent MBA graduate with specialization in corporate finance and a BA in economics, both with strong academic records. I don’t have any internship experience in investment banking, but I really want to get into I-banking. I guess I cannot get an internship anymore since I have already graduated, as I was told by a few whom I contacted. An internship experience is a prerequisite kind of thing for I-banking, and I am not sure if I apply for analyst positions since I don’t have the experience. I have tried some cold callings, still no hope. Is there anyone else who had the same experience and was able to work her/his way out? I would really appreciate some advice and strategies to boost my job search and achieve my goal. Thanks so much in advance.
I think your best and most realistic option is to target regional botiques. My firm just hired a Booth MBA with no prior IB experience. At smaller firms a top MBA can get you pretty far because there is no structured recruiting.

As the title states, I graduated from a non-target with a decent GPA and majored in Economics. I didn't get an internship (which is crucial I know). I still want to get into the I-Banking world. I was just accepted into USC's MA Econ program. My question is this:
Is it too late to get into I-Banking? Will employers/recruiters look away from a college grad?
Will an MA in Econ make me more marketable? Is it still possible to land an internship through my school's portal as a graduate student?

Nothing's impossible I guess. Since you're going to be going back to school there's always the chance you can get an intern spot while in post grad. Get on top of things now otherwise there's probably little to no chance.
I think an MFin would make more sense. That degree is usually only ever pursued for people in your situation. I think an MA in Econ is more for academics (though I could be completely wrong).
MSF would be better if the end goal is IB and if the school has decent OCR + you get to take some quant classes (Corp Fin, Investments, Banking, etc) that idk if you took when majoring in Econ. I think I remember the USC MSF being top 20 at least.

Hey guys.
As you can probably guess from the title of this post I am an incoming senior at UCLA majoring in Mathematics/Economics. I currently have a 3.6 GPA.
Until the beginning of the spring quarter of this year I always intended on going to law school. I won't go into why this was originally my plan, but while talking to a friend who was thinking about pursuing investment banking he told me that someone had recommended to him the book "Investment Banking: Valuation, Leveraged Buyouts, and Mergers and Acquisitions" by Joshua Rosenbaum and Joshua Pearl.
I had frequently heard about investment banking but honestly until that point had no real idea what an investment bank is or what an investment banker does so I decided to get a copy of the book to check it out. I ended up going through the entire book and the accompanying workbook and really enjoyed it.
Due to my original plan of attending law school I've never bothered attempting to obtain a summer internship in anything related to financial services and hence my resumé only lists part-time jobs and volunteer experience. I also purposely kept this summer free since my original plan was to study for the LSAT all summer.
However the more I've studied for the LSAT, even though the material on the LSAT itself isn't necessarily representative of law school or the legal profession, the more I've realized that law school and the legal profession just isn't as interesting to me as what I've learned from my studies on investment banking.
My question to many of you guys who have much more experience than a guy who basically only started dabbling in the world of finance is: do I have any shot at landing an internship and subsequently a full-time position at any banks upon graduation next year? If yes what do you guys recommend as the best approach to do so?
I've read that today to be competitive your GPA ideally needs to be above a 3.7, which I fully intend to raise it to this coming year.

You should look into getting an MFin / MSF (other users know a lot more about this - you can search the sight for helpful info) or possibly delaying graduation a semester so that you're effectively a Junior this year and can apply for summer analyst positions. In the meantime, join relevant clubs on campus to further develop your interest so that you can be sure that it's something you enjoy and so that you can demonstrate to potential employers that you have a genuine interest.
