Am I getting offer or have things changed?

So I recently had a superday at a boutique. The superday I thought went pretty well and a few hours after the interviews, my contact at the bank called me saying everyone thought I did a good job. He didn't say outright I had an offer (I got a good feeling from the call) and asked me a question about office preferences. He let me know on the call that written offers should be out next week. Recently I got an email from him saying they are still figuring things out and should be letting candidates know later this week about if they got an offer or not and written offers will be extended in an additional week.

I am wondering if i got this email because I am not the top candidate but the 2nd one and they are looking to see if their top guy accepts or not before offering me. Or am I just being paranoid?

If it makes any difference this would be me lateraling from a non-IB role to IB.

Consider the email saying written offers are extended a week as a good sign -- you are clearly still in consideration while others have probably already been dinged.

These things are never really a for-sure yes/no, but I doubt you are in a 1st/2nd place type of situation.

It's a pain to coordinate hiring and usually the final sign off comes from someone senior who is busy traveling or something. Everyone can like you but this person sometimes spends 2 seconds on your resume, says no, and that's it.

Just wait it out. that is the best you can do for now.
