Any info on GS LA IBD?

Haven’t been able to find very many threads about GS LA. Know it’s a small shop and they focus on C&R and HC but how is deal flow/exits? Do they have any schools they specifically recruit from? What’s junior class size every year? Any info would be appreciated

Based on the most helpful WSO content, there isn't specific information about the GS LA IBD office in the provided context. However, here are some general insights about Goldman Sachs' recruiting and class sizes that might be useful:

  1. Goldman Sachs IBD Recruiting Stats:

    • Goldman Sachs had over 28,000 applicants for less than 500 positions, with over 50% of the analyst class being female. This indicates a highly competitive recruiting process.
  2. Class Sizes:

    • For the GS SLC IBD program, there are approximately 100 front office bankers with new classes of around 40 analysts each year. While this is specific to the SLC office, it gives an idea of the scale of GS's recruiting efforts.
  3. General Class Sizes at Bulge Brackets:

    • GS typically has around 16 summer analysts in their class, as noted in previous WSO threads.

Unfortunately, there isn't detailed information about the specific deal flow, exits, or school recruitment for the GS LA office in the provided context. If you need more specific details, you might want to explore additional threads on WSO or reach out to current or former employees of GS LA for firsthand insights.

From what I’ve seen on WSO: 1-2 Summer Analysts taken a year, from UCLA/USC generally. Cannot comment on dealflow (Goldman HC isn’t their strongest group but obviously the brand name speaks for itself), but from my understanding they work with the teams in NY on deals. Don’t doubt that exits are strong into UMM / potentially MF SoCal PE firms.

Have a buddy going there he said LA C&R only took 2 SAs this cycle and is much smaller than HC. HC is split between SF/LA and in total is around 30-40 people I believe, probably 3-5 interns across both offices. They recruit heavily out of the GS West Coast Insight Day but still possible to get in without that. Alot of USC/UCLA kids go there. HC is also cross staffed with NY but also does a bit more biotech/medtech due to being on West Coast. Said culture is pretty friendly, definitely not as cutthroat as NYC, still get slammed hours-wise though. As for dealflow, HC does do some pitching but majority of work is actual transactions. Can't comment on exits.

Thank you for the insights. One more question tho, what is the west coast insights day? I was looking online and only found insights day for Europe. Does GS LA recruit late in the cycle or early?

WC Insights Day is just an event they use to vet kids they might want to give an offer. It’s more of a get to know each other than an intense test or anything like that. Mostly just target school kids and pretty competitive to get into.
