Any risk of "failing" a background check?

I am a senior at a semi-target with an offer at a BB AM shop. They sent me the background check form already and it has space for past work references. I emailed my bosses and they are mostly onside so I think I should be good. I think one of my bosses from my past internships is a little peeved at me, but no deal breakers.

I don't have any criminal record or anything else sketchy that may come up in a background check, so I'm good on that front.

The only reason I'm a little concerned is my last 3 internships have all been at boutiques and I've never had to fill out this kind of paperwork before. Is it pretty standard? I'm afraid of telling people I have an offer in case it gets revoked due to a background check or something.

leveRAGE.no, there's no chance unless you lied or have a criminal record. this isn't anything more than a formality for the vast majority of people.
What would they consider "lying" ? I'll admit I "spun" a few of my work experiences and put those same managers down as references. Will the third party background check firm ask about all the bullet points on my resume?

Your references will never say anything bad about you unless you actually did criminal/shady stuff/were fired for breaking the rules at your last job. Doesn't matter if they hated you or thought you were a dumbass. They have nothing to gain by saying "this guy sucks" and can get sued out the ass for disparaging you like that. I wouldn't worry.

Okay sounds good, thanks.

edit: will HR ever tell you if you have failed/cleared the background check?

they usually wont tell you if you passed since almost 100% of people do and its a waste of time. sounds like youre fine - don't lose sleep over this.
