Any Ryerson University Alums here??

Hey,

I go to Ryerson University (Toronto)(I know that Ryerson is not a top-tier business program in Canada for IBD recruiting), but just curious to see if there any alums on Bay/Wall street that made it.

Thanks!

Yeah that's what i thought.

I'm wondering though, is going to Ivey just for "getting the interview"? My brother-in-law has really good friends (VP's, MDs) at RBCCM and CIBCCM (he told me he'll pass my resume around for fall recruiting).

Do you think going to Ryerson would be a "negative" impact? I have a 3.9 GPA (major gpa 3.94) and am the president of 1 club at ryerson and the "vp of finance" in another. You think I'll have a chance?

Or is transferring to Ivey my best bet.

Thanks!!

I have seen one associate at a boutique investment bank that did his undergrad at Ryerson but he got his MBA from Laurier. And i've seen maybe one or two Ryerson grads in very small pe funds in Toronto. Reach out to your contacts but I would still say transfer to Ivey. Your stats are very good you should get in.

Banking is a very elite business and in Toronto most of the bankers attended Ivey, McGill, Schulich, Queens, UofT, UBC and Laurier. The problem with Ryerson is the first impression bias you will have to overcome with every investment banker you meet. Alot of bankers will automatically think negatively towards you before they even know you based purely on Ryerson's rep.

Agreed - with your marks and involvement, you will get in for sure. I'm not sure what year you are in, but you should contact Ivey admin ASAP if you are interested in transferring for next year. You are probably a bit past the deadline so you should move quickly and try and contact a program admin if you are serious. Shouldn't be a problem. London is a great city to be a student in.

No banks recruit at Ryerson and this is based on their recruiting schedules posted on their websites. Ryerson is the only school that did not make the list for banks. However, I believe in a couple of years, Ryerson will be come a top tier business school since the whole business program is fairly new to the scene. But for now, Ivey is no doubt your best bet.

What makes you think it'll become a top tier business program?

The fact that I, ryerson-2015, will be attending this upcoming fall.

Thanks for all the advice! Yeah, i was checking the website, I missed the deadline already. I emailed their office and I am going to call thier office on Monday. The only downside is that im in my junior year, but i heard they still accept (3rd year) transfer students. If anything, I'll delay my graduation by a year, no biggie. IBD is definitely where i want to be.

Thanks again everyone!

Update:

I contacted Ivey admins and I'm SOL. They told me I’m way past the deadline for transferring and all spots are full. The deadline was in January. So basically I am stuck at Ryerson, with no SA offers :(. I got an internship at the CRA.

Right now, I’m planning to do the CSC, Wall Street Prep, and network like crazy during the summer.

Any other advice to strengthen my chances for FT recruiting?

Thanks!!

There are many people in Ivey HBA1 who have already graduated from a related program. I would still continue to contact ivey as you still have a shot of getting in, but if you really want to do banking, it might be worth it to wait and apply for next year.

What CDNmoney says is true about people getting 30+ ibd interviews.
