Any summer S&T interns on IB forum willing to discuss their tasks so far?
This past week there have been 3 posts on Trading forum asking summer S&T interns what their experience/tasks have been like so far... thus far, not a single response/comment. So maybe the S&T'ers are lurking on this forum. If so, can you describe the kinds of tasks the firm had you doing this week? Thanks.

I'll step up... just started this past week at a mid-top BB. Important precursor: I'm a quant type major (CS, Stat, Math)
So far it's been frustrating. I realize that we're constrained by short rotations and we have no ability to talk to clients/trade, but I really wanted to have my desk have me code something as someone who has the ability to do so. Instead the 'tasks' involves mostly networking, a lot like being in the office for an S&T internship, but you can't walk around & ask for a chat and rather have to spend way too much time setting up time to call people. Other than that, I've been asked to make bullshit summaries that I know no one will read because they add no value.
Some people really like this, don't get me wrong, and I don't mind chatting to people. It's easy and convenient if you're good at talking. But as someone who really likes results, it's extremely frustrating
Still going through the motions and keeping a positive attitude about it, and I will seek out meaningful projects if I don't get any. So I'll update a couple weeks from now
Thanks for the response. And by "summaries," do you mean summaries of the day's market action?
Yes exactly, or like summary of what people do around the team I’m on etc
What the hell is a mid top bb. Stop being insecure
prob Citi or barclays
No need to be a piece of shit.. mid-top BB means a BB in the middle or top. I am just trying to remain more anonymous since I gave details on myself and I don’t know how different these programs are/the majors of kids in them

Will second the post above (we might be in the same BB). I'm an Econ major and Finance minor btw. But the twist is: I was originally supposed to work in APAC, but because of how the world is now I'm in the US and remote working with a Sales team based in NY. Everything I did was similar to in the post above: 1. Setting up times & calling ppl to network, except I need to call up both ppl in the US and APAC which I honestly think is 2x as hard 2. Random mandatory intern project sessions/lectures. 3. (Not really value-add) Tasks & Final project. In my case the project is a stock pitch at the end of the (very few) weeks I'm actually on the desk, and my manager formatted so we have milestones that build towards it. So I get bombarded by emails/research/other info everyday and try to use whatever time I'm not calling ppl/ going to intern lectures to go thru those. Also need to submit short daily write-up of what I did to my manager 4. Apart from this I also got two or three short menial tasks (e.g. "Find me the 10+ links and other info mentioned in this email"/"Give me a summary of this report & ask the sales guys for their stock picks") which I doubt adds much value either. And yeah I'm also trying really hard to work & keep a good attitude. Hope it works out for all of us.
is this your first week? Sounds quite productive .
