Appropriate time to take vacation as analyst 1?
Hi bros. I am analyst 1 at an "IBAB" bank and have been here for about 4 months. Things will be quiet for the next month as project pipeline will kick in heavily in December onwards. I was thinking of taking a week off to travel to my family but am not sure how it'll look like as analyst 1. Not like it's forbidden. But how it looks like matters. Ftr I have so far received very solid feedback.
Thoughts?
Who cares, you are only young once. I guarantee you you will never remember when I stayed late at work(everyday), but you will remember when you took that sweet trip to Europe with friends and family.
In IB, there is never a good time to 1.) take vacation, 2.) quit.
With that being said the best way to take PTO is put it in / ask for it as early as possible (even months in advance is fine). Send an email to all ur deal teams / direct team (can bcc everyone) telling them exactly when you’ll be out (don’t have to say why) and ensure you’ll have the proper coverage. Follow up on this email periodically as ur PTO approaches (6 weeks out, 1 month out, 2 weeks out, 1 week out, 1 day before) to ensure everyone remembers that you’ll be gone. Make sure u have coverage then enjoy ur PTO and try to not think about work.
Secondly, wtf is an IBAB bank?
LOL ibab banks are those that are big in terms of balance sheet and activity, do have comprehensive capital market presence (IB, S&T, ER, ECM/DCM) such that they’re differentiated from EBs, but their deal flow isn’t sufficiently large such that they’re called BBs. Assuming this bracket would include HSBC, WF, BNP, Barclays etc
