Back Office to the Big Leagues: Can an a product manager Pivot to IB/PWM?
Hi everyone, I’m currently an Associate Product Manager (APM) at a financial services company looking to pivot into Investment Banking or Private Wealth Management (PWM)—leaning towards IB more. My company doesn’t have a front-office path, so I’m exploring external opportunities. I have a finance degree from a non-target school (2022). However, my alumni network does not have a pipeline into IB or PWM. Also, I have experience launching international product features and tracking their financial performance. I’ve been told my degree, attention to detail, and transferable skills would help with this pivot. To prepare, I’m studying for the SIE exam and considering the Series 63 and 65 if they align with my goals. I’m posting here to ask: 1. How difficult will it be to pivot into IB or PWM without an MBA since I’m a semi-recent grad with more tech than IB experience? 2. Given my unorthodox pivot, would it be worth enrolling in WSO IB academy to ensure I can break into IB or am I SOL? Any advice or resources for making this transition would be greatly appreciated!
