BB 25 SA Group Placement?

Hi guys,

Incoming Barclays 25 SA here. I wanted to reach out to see if anyone has already started networking for group placement. How does the process work exactly, and when should I start? I'm from a non-target school, so I don't really have anyone to ask about these things. Just want to make the most of this winter break to set myself up for a good group next summer - Thx in advance!

Also feel free to DM me

Based on the most helpful WSO content, group placement for summer analysts (SAs) at BBs like Barclays typically involves a matching process where you express your preferences for groups, and the groups evaluate candidates based on their fit and interest. Here's how you can approach it:

  1. Start Networking Early: Use your winter break to reach out to alumni, analysts, and associates in the groups you're interested in. Building relationships now can help you stand out when group placement discussions begin.

  2. Understand the Process: At many banks, group placement happens closer to the start of your internship. However, networking early allows you to get on the radar of key decision-makers in your preferred groups.

  3. Target Specific Groups: Research the groups at Barclays (e.g., M&A, TMT, FIG, etc.) and identify which ones align with your interests and career goals. Tailor your outreach to these groups.

  4. Leverage Your Network: Even as a non-target student, you can connect with professionals through LinkedIn or cold emails. Mention your upcoming SA role and express interest in learning more about their group.

  5. Be Proactive: Some WSO threads suggest that starting 3-4 months before the internship can be beneficial. Analysts and associates may be more responsive during quieter periods, like winter break.
