BC, Emory, Georgetown

I am thinking about where I should ED for undergrad next year:

BC carroll - would probably get in ed but riskier if I wait regular decision

Mcdonough - obviously best school but risky ED not too confident I would get in

Emory - Would have a good chance ED (how respected is Goizueta on the street?)

My group has juniors from all three, and I went to one of the above. Go where you fit in the best, but have preference towards Emory or Georgetown. At all three you’ll still need to work hard in school and network.

Not sure what your financial situation is but would also keep that in mind. A full ride to BC might be better than paying full sticker at Emory or Georgetown - something you’ll need to figure out for yourself (and with family)

You won't get a full ride to BC. They only give out less than 20 full-ride academic scholarships and no partial academic scholarships at all - only fin-aid money from BC unless you're already an absolute superstar.

How was it? We’re the opportunities good? Did it set you up well for recruiting and finance opportunities? Also, how is the social scene there? Do people go into boston often (how accessible is it)

Opportunities are good, network is strong, clubs/ classes aren’t that good at pushing you to banking, Sports are good, would have way more fun at a state school, imagine GT and BC are similar socially, you won’t go into Boston that often, GT just places more people

Emory undergrad. If you apply to Emory ED, you can also select the Oxford campus. Has completely different admissions team, but you’re considered for both schools. It provides a good safety option.

Campus life isn’t for everyone and it’s abt 45min from ATL campus. Academics are completely same. Might have to briefly explain wtf Oxford is and why u chose it (always spin it positively), but there’s kids who go on to top EB/BB even in NY

The tone of this message is all you need to know for why BC places more than Emory: "but there's kids who go on to top EB/BB even in NY."

BC places probably near 40 kids in NYC BB/NYC every year consistently out of a business class of ~550. Even more kids go to IB MM & boutiques, if you are interested in banking, you can get a job. If you're on WSO already, you will be fine as you are leagues ahead of your peers.

Holy shit bud. Emory has 2 campuses. Emory Atlanta (main) and Emory Oxford. Oxford campus only had 500 kids per grade and goes up to sophomore year. 98% of the kids at Oxford are not even SLIGHTLY interested in IB, yet kids still place here. Oxford grads go onto Emory Atlanta campus after sophomore year. Oxford is in butt fuck nowhere Georgia which is why I phrased my message with that tone – yet any kid who has a 3.7+ and gets into our investment management organization has a clearcut path to anywhere he/she wants. Additionally, Emory Atlanta campus has great IB placement but it's just too far away from NY which is why BC MAYBE places better in NY

For overall general prestige Emory= Georgetown> BC(not based on finance recruiting but rankings and whatnot). For IB Georgetown> Emory> BC. For consulting Emory= >Georgetown>BC. There is very strong consulting recruiting at Georgetown and Emory but at least at MBA level Emory is up there for consulting. There's a lot of healthcare consulting recruiting. BC might have similar placement to Emory but the confounding variables are a lot more IB gunners and its in the Northeast. Emory is first and foremost a pre-med school that's where the brains of Emory are but business is very well respected and has picked up a lot in recent years. Placing into IB is very easy and its king in the south along with Duke, UNC, UVA, and Vanderbilt. BC is larger and has somewhat less general prestige along with all kids gunning for competitive Northeast spots. Top level EB and UMM PE placement is surprisingly strong at Emory. With all 3 options Georgetown will give you the best shot at IB but it doesn't have ED so if you want a safer bet I would consider Emory. However if you're like I want the absolute best then EA Georgetown(EA doesn't really give a boost) and RD the other 2. The only thing about RD is its insanely competitive and you probably will have a very hard time at Emory and Georgetown. BC had like a 16% overall acceptance rate this year, Emory(main campus) was at 10.6% overall(8-9% RD), and Georgetown was 12%.

I have absolutely no dog in this fight.

That being said, we gotta make 2 things clear to these college kids dickriding Emory:

  • NYC placement >>>>>>>>>>> Anywhere in the South

My team's selling a big ATL-based company rn. Every deal team that baked off for it was from CA / NYC. Enough said.

  • No one cares about rankings. Everyone has heard of Gtown. No one gives a fuck about Emory. I didn't know it was in ATL until today LOL. I acknowledge I'm a dumbass, but there are a lot of dumbasses who could be your foot in the door.

Unless you're from the South, don't go to Emory. I'd rather pull for a grinder out of the SEC than someone who went to 'the Harvard of the South' lmao
