Best Types of Work for Previous Internship Experience

I am going into my junior year and looking to apply for a BB IB internship next summer as a rising senior. What do recruiters look for in your work experience? I've been told that the ideal past work experience would include some degree of modelling, but it's fairly rare for interns (especially those going into their junior year) to be handed modelling work... For those who went through the SA process successfully, what type of work experience were you able to leverage?

Last summer I worked in my senator's office. I was an econ TA during the year, and I'm doing research with 3 professors this summer--two projects on river pollution in India and one project on human rights.

I am close with my finance professor though. I can probably get work with him if that would be useful.

You have plenty of time. Firstly, make sure that you can do on-campus interviews, the career center at Leavey does these workshops (I think when school begins) that you have to attend in order to interview on campus.

Summer internships won't be looking to see that you have the MSB background; they're focused on getting smart kids. The fact that you're already looking at BIWS and valuation books is a plus. There are a lot of SFS kids who end up in finance. You should reach out to them for any advice they may have.

Feel free to PM me as well.
