Blackrock AMG or PAG
So the initial shock from being rejected from numerous banks (applied to 10 banks, 9 first rounds, 5 final rounds, 0 offers, semi-target background)has finally settled in, and I am looking again.
I have an interview with Blackrock coming up, and I was wondering if anyone here would be able to elaborate a bit on AMG (Account Management Group) or PAG (Portfolio Analytics Group) and how something like this would look on a resume for full-time banking recruiting in the fall.
Not 100% sure, but from what I gather, PAG seems to consist of using Blackrock's software to do risk analysis and prepare something called a GreenBook for the traders. Account management seems to be more client/marketing focused.
I was gunning for portfolio management, but the recruiting said that hiring for portfolio management straight out of undergrad seems a little more rare.

Well I had superday with Blackrock AMG. You better brace... 5 out of 6 kids from my school (target) have gotten rejection. I'm the only one left and I kept getting calls that they are still confirming summer details. When is your superday? This friday?

m8875, Did they tell you after your first round that you were interviewing for AMG? Because I was told I will be interviewing for PAG, so how does this compare in terms of 2nd round --> offer chances?
Ib1, I interviewed first round for AMG and naturally AMG also for superday. I know that someone has gotten offer for PAG but what's bothering me is that idk anyone with offer from AMG so not sure whether I'm waitlisted or what...lol...
i got an offer from AMG two fridays ago and two people from my school got an offer from PAG.
^oh that means i got waitlisted lol...
AMG can be seen as a liaison role. Support various groups + clients. Can be viewed almost as mid/back from Bank's point of view.
PAG can be seen as risk analytics. Can be viewed as mid from Bank's point of view.
FMG is straight up fin modeling. Very technical. This group would best suit your marketability toward IBD or buyside. This is the front office role.
I have a interview with PAG coming up as well. Its interesting because I was told that AMG had filled their needs and were no longer interviewing. I guess that another HR myth.
From what I gather, the technical questions during the interview should focus more on fixed income, since they have some of the best MBS modeling platforms and what not... but predominately behavioral to see if you fit in the open culture of the "blackrock citizen"...

How do they decide who gets PAG or AMG?
And I'm assuming AMG is the better route to becoming a PM? Or are both positions equally suited for rising to PM based on performance?
PAG = portfolio analytics group. so this would def be the better route toward PM (portfolio management i'm assuming).
AMG would be a better rote for CapMarkets/middle office roles.
students apply to PAG, AMG, FMG. they don't apply to one pool and Blackrock doesn't simply choose who gets what.
That's what happened at my school. We got invited to first rounds and told which group we would be interviewing for SuperDays with.
