BOFA Analyst training call anti semitism -- follow up

Saw the thread from a few months ago about that girl that left herself unmuted on the BOFA new analyst training call -- was wondering what wound up happening to her. Don't want to dox her but seems like she was let go, had an employment gap, and now works in corp fin (T3 city in the south) in a job, that according to glassdoor, pays a third of what a banking analyst would make. Graduated with high honors from a top target while a varsity athlete -- all that gone in a split second after not muting a call. Crazy, but goes to show that you should always treat people with respect and act like someone's watching.

It's pretty easy to find her linkedin -- the employment timeline is honestly kinda funny. Goes from BB IB Analyst to half a year of unemployment to Dollar General lmao. Might not be the worst thing for her tho, getting away from NYC and the IB ecosystem where everyone would know her as 'that girl' would be rough -- maybe this could be the fresh start she may need.

Holy shit. Valedictorian of her high school, magna cum laude from a top target, varsity college athlete, BB IB analyst. It's very unfortunate how far she fell for such a careless mistake. Would any of you give her a second chance?

I'd give her a second chance if she was important to the bank, but she's not. I don't think there is a need to do her any favors with "second chances" etc when there are a ton of other qualified, unproblematic kids ready to jump in and take her spot.

Depends what you’re asking. If I was at a rival shop and her resume comes across I don’t care about the incident at all and would just look at her credentials. She got into a heated argument with her bf, and made a remark which some would find offensive while accidentally not unmuting herself. As a potential employer I know that she’s already embarrassed herself at BAML and I think she gets the point to check her Zoom from now on. As for what she said, it’s a personal argument between her and her bf... why should I even care? That’s not my business and as long as she makes it past the interview phase, I would hire her. Now if I was VP+ at BAML would I give her a second chance? This is a tricky question because I didn’t think the firing decision was made by one particular person but rather several departments (HR, Compliance, etc. were involved). Point being, I wouldn’t have much say in the final decision and even though I wouldn’t like an outright firing, there is nothing I can do about it. If the decision fell SOLELY on me, I wouldn’t fire her, but encourage her to lateral (basically keep her employed until she finds the next job) not because of my own opinion but I realize it’s going to be very difficult for her to get positive reviews or advance at the firm given what I know other coworkers would be thinking (look at how many in that other thread wanted her axed and even seemed happy by it).

The problem with this is you're focusing on her lapse of judgement in not muting herself but ignoring the fact that you would be knowingly bringing someone who holds racist views into your organisation. This suggests you are OK with the remarks behind closed doors (which is akin to saying you'd knowingly hire someone who's secretly racist).

Damn this means she couldn’t land ANY other job in high finance. I’d never do what she did, but her fall from grace frightens me. I can’t help but feel somewhat bad for her. Imagine having to tell your friends and family why you’re leaving your amazing NYC job for this.

If I were in a position to give her a second chance, I would be very tempted to do so; however, I would also worry about how that may reflect on me.

I really don't understand why someone like this deserves a second chance. Can you explain the logic? It certainly isn't an honest mistake but rather a lapse of judgement which revealed her racist views. Id agree if it was her being off mute and saying someone is stupid and was fired. But its the content which can't be forgiven

Well I think there is some grey area to whether what she said is racist. But let's assume for the purpose of this response is that it does.

I have two points to make

1) Why should I care what she thinks off the job? If I'm a potential employer I'm looking to see if she can get the duties of the job done well which are tasks like PPT formatting, errand work, etc. Yes, there is an element where she will need to work with coworkers including Jewish coworkers. But she hasn't actually had any instances of trouble inside a physical office or with her coworkers. What she said was a private comment to her BF that accidentally got unmuted. As long as she is professional inside the office and treats her colleagues with respect and gets the job done, why should her personal life matter? I reiterate that I would be an employer not Big Brother.

2) You're acting as if she would be the only person who holds private. discriminatory views in the office. Let me ask you a genuine question. Do you know any coworkers who when screening for resumes gives preference for someone based on race (not necessarily White) , gender (not necessarily Male), or sexual orientation? How about same school (alumni) or through family connections?  If so, by your own standards such a person would be a prejudiced bigot not just in words, but in deeds as well and using your logic should be canned and blacklisted from the industry.

To be clear I'm not condoning any of what happened or trying to say "this is the way things are, move on." But knowing the inner workings of this field it's hypocritical for you to paint you and your colleague wearing halos and seemingly "can't understand" why this girl shouldn't be blacklisted.

From the job description

“Primarily forecast, analyze, and report results for company-wide sales and cost of goods (gross margin). This role will directly support the Sr. Manager of FP&A in providing functional leaders with the tools necessary to review and make profitable decisions across the Finance, Merchandising and Supply Chain organizations. The ability to drive ad hoc reporting, variance analysis and creatively leverage systems to generate data, is critical.”

anti-semites should be punished just like any person who mocks others for their country/race/religion of origin. No exceptions.

Lmfao she retweeted something about BofA spending $1Bn to fight racial inequality. Pure virtue signaling on her part.

Let's get this straight. Almost all of those "programs" are virtue signaling. You see a dollar amount but where does all that money go? $1Bn is pledged "to fight racial inequality" yet poor minorities in NYC have such poor education that many struggle to even read and our left in the dust by their private school counterparts. $1Bn should easily put a massive dent in  this issue if it was properly pledged. How about these banks actually trying to go to Harlem and the poorer high schools and creating workships/internships to help these communities? I don't see any of that either.

For what its worth she her twitter shows she is clearly pretty hard core MAGA...so at least she was on brand.

You're a hypocrite. I bet you have no problem with this girl being blacklisted from the industry for as you see it being a "bigot" yet you just generalized MAGA republicans (~30-40% of population?) to be racists, which by your own definition would be a bigoted remark. Yet evidently you have no problem with yourself and think you're morally superior to the girl in question.

P.S. Trump outperformed his 2016 showing in every category except white males where he lost ground to Biden. That loss in ground with white males is what sealed his loss.

clearly this person made a mistake and said things she should not have said.

BUT you guys are doxing and bringing out pitch forks over comments that do not seem as hateful as you are making them out to be (they were bad and inexcusable for sure but the malice you are ascribing to her feels unclear to me). I am in no way defending her comments or her, but you guys (as young people) need to recognize that people often need to completely fuck up to course correct and should be allowed to do that and then make a living.

I have no clue if this person handled the aftermath well, meant what she said, is a good person, etc. but neither do you. so I would worry about making sure this stuff doesn't happen where you work and stop trying to spark a mob against a young person who fucked up that you don't know (unless there was way worse shit than what was on that instagram story last year)
