Caliber of MDs between Banks
At a mid tier BB coverage right now. I’m honestly disappointed at the work we do - constant pitching, very few deals closed (prob due to the market, but seeing other banks closing deals in our sector), and mostly importantly, all the BS that our MDs put in a deck.
Anecdotally, heard that one EB was working with us on a deal, and their MDs and even mid level bankers provided more insights than our MDs. This got me thinking if there’s a huge gap between the caliber of MDs at different banks.
I read an article on Financial Times on the Centerview internal fight, and there they mentioned how Centerview is trusted by the corporations and provides real useful advice. That is what I imagined investment banking is about, so there’s a huge disconnect between that and what’s happening on a daily basis at my place.
Would love to hear some thoughts.
Let me guess..you are at ubs?
Sounds like my mds
What firm, that seems torturous. Ig at least the firm is getting some deals, but that sounds terrible at the junior levle.
Yeah centerview and Evercore generally have better bankers than a BB except for the “top” few groups at each BB - difference narrows there.
conversely, I know senior MDs at RBC and Citi that are light years better than Moelis in my industry
What industry
