Can you succeed in IB as a momma's boy?

This might sound like a joke, but I'm god damn serious

I need to see my mom often, because she raised me stay-at-home while my dad was often international earning money for us. She's across the country in CA while I'll likely be in NYC

My fear is that many years will go by without significant time for reconnection. But I also have a desire for money

Will this be something I need to get past, or would it be a bad idea to do so? I'm extremely conflicted because I don't want to regret either not spending time with my mom or not going through with this one shot I have

If you have to/want to, start in nyc and exit or lateral to a group in Cali. Only a first year but feel similarly and can understand wanting to be close to family. Flying home frequently isn’t really an option as an analyst even in a group that’s more chill and not a sweatshop, but for certain people some things are worth prioritizing over your career. In your case I would suggest to look for a compromise and not sell your soul to nyc firms.
