Canadian IB VP Interviews
There’s a big game of musical chairs happening right now in Canadian IB with heads switching banks and subsequently poaching from each other and as a result somehow Canadian VP IB interviews are more abundant than ever. (Condolences if you haven’t been bombarded with recruiters representing different banks trying to poach you)
Question is though, has anyone done a VP interview at a Canadian bank? Been invited to a couple super days but not sure how to prepare. Do they do technicals? Senior M&A people are part of the super day but I thought these things were effectively just vibe checks?
Which verticals? Seems like it’s Barclays mostly.
BMO, TD, MIZUHO, Barclays, Scotia, etc all have VP or above public or private postings in Toronto offices right now
VP base is same at all these Canadian banks ~$180k. Not worth the effort
Pretty sure TD is 175 and Scotia is 150. Cash comp is also completely different across the banks. IE 450k TC not the same at all across the banks
180K is the base for VPs? That’s fucking terrible. US associates get paid 175-200k USD at middle markets like Jefferies, Baird, WB, RJ, and even the shittier ones like Stifel and BMO.
Ok so? It’s a different market. Not everyone has the desire/opportunity to go to the US
Yes, it is pretty low compared to US. A top bucket VP1 will make ~$450k CAD all in at most large Canadian banks. Deduct ~40-50% in taxes and inflated COL in Toronto.
