Many Canadian pension funds have long invested in infra assets. Platform, team, deal flow, capital, etc should be very mature.
One big issue is that they almost never convert interns to FT if that's a route you are thinking of taking.
This is untrue. CPP, PSP and AIMCo all have established internship programs and routinely hire from their summer analyst / co-op pool for full time roles. Teachers' and OMERS used to hire interns and then would only hire experienced associates, but both have since revamped their recruiting strategy and now have a proper internship program as well as a number of new grad analyst roles in groups including infrastructure & NR. Of these funds I think OMERS and CPP have a rotation program whereas the others have group specific placements.
Some of the pension funds are more sophisticated than others, but generally at the junior level I would imagine you'd get a fairly similar experience across the board.
Ok thanks. My info is certainly outdated then.
Do you know the typical return rates for the names you mentioned? I know for example, PSP tends to invite interns who performed well for another round of internships or part-time, but not sure how many / what percent of these "repeat" interns ultimately stay on for full-time.
how would you recommend prepping for an interview and where can I learn more about what infra investing actually is
