Capital Markets to Investment Banking
I am currently set to start working at a reputable bank on their capital markets team. While I am extremely grateful for the opportunity considering how tight the job market is, my goal is to still work in coverage/M&A/lev-fin.
I understand that plenty of people have switched from capital markets to investment banking but I wanted to know more about the process itself.
- Would it need to be an internal move/lateral to a different bank? Utilize HH or work the network?
- Do I have to focus on an industry or product?
- When should I start the networking? Do I need to shoot for A1 or A3 roles?
- Do I have to target lower tier banks to make the move?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
