CIBC Mid-Market Investment Banking?
I see some chat about RBCs MM M&A practice, any details on CIBC?
I’m more interested in MM for better wlb so I’m curious before I start networking.

MMIB in Canada? Operates out of commercial banking vs capital markets so pay is significantly lower. Approximately half at associate and up (maybe slightly more than half). Not half the hours though
Have heard the same re: Canada MM - hours aren't significantly better but pay is significantly lower.
Have also heard that of the big mandates that MM wins, if it's large enough for capital markets, capital markets will sometimes sweep it.
Second this, pay is significantly lower. Hours are better, but not by much.
Would you say it’s closer to the 60 hour mark as opposed to 80+?
Heard same, would avoid OP if you can get into large cap
TL;DR: Good culture, good deal flow and responsibilities, terrible comp
All-in comp is ~$80k for A1 at CIBC, have heard the RBC team has historically paid slightly lower but not sure if this is still the case. Culture is pretty great - seniors care about junior development and are chill to work with. No nightmare stories compared to Capital Markets counterparts. Expect 9am to 9pm on weekdays with rarely ever any weekend work during good times and 9am - 12am with some weekend work during bad times (Largely depends on how understaffed the team is at the junior level as there tends to be high turnover due to comp). They do a lot of work in manufacturing, distribution, and industrials. They used to do a lot of tech but the MD that led that has since moved to Capital Markets, so not sure if it's still a main focus. You get to take on higher level of responsibilities such as modeling at a pretty early stage in your career if you prove yourself. All in all, was a great team to be at and would have stayed if the comp wasn't so incredibly low.
Yes, I worked across those guys years ago and they were very nice and juniors largely left to better paying comp. That said, the MM leveraged finance guys on same floor did interesting work and many exited to great opps - CPP, HOOPP, OMERS, BB banking etc
Does the Levfin team get the same pay as MM IB?
Is that $80k all in comp for U.S or Canada and is this still the all in comp?
Hey,
Any idea how much Directors and good MDs make within the team?
Really not a lot of info regarding comp at the senior level within those teams
