That’s why. They had an OPT (STEM) and used TN as a backup if they didn’t get H1B or didn’t sponsor so they had to use TN. I hear Canadian banks don’t sponsor what I mean by sponsor is H1B so if you’re a student you usually do OPT - > TN. imo, I’d take another offer and go to a bank that sponsors to get your green card shit sorted out because TN is not a duel intent visa.

Gotcha. So the path to becoming US citizen is H1B not TN? I feel that if companies sponsor for OPT than they would sponsor H1B, don't you agree? How hard is the process to green card once you actually get a job? I feel the job is the hardest part, lol

There are many paths.

Marriage, investor visa if you have rich parents (EB5), or H1B. TN is not the path. If you do TN and apply for green card on it you can never get TN again it’s over because you tried to immigrate. The best path is do a masters in the states if you did your undergrad in Canada, make sure it’s stem, do OPT for 3 years, and then H1B. Once you get H1B immediately downstream to a boutique — immediately. Get them to negotiate the green card for you from day one once you join. That’s how you do it.

Because you can’t trust HR at these big corporations. Have heard stories of BBs holding employees hostage for 6 years dangling a carrot over their heads that they’ll start the green card process and sometimes never do. If your goal is to become a US citizen - you sacrifice prestige and comp to make it happen. At the end of the day you’ll still be far ahead than you would’ve been in Canada.

No not a US citizen and speaking from experience.

Makes sense. Get the BB to sponsor H1B and then move over to smaller firm that will actually help with green card?

Definately need to get out of Canada, I know a kid working at a EB in Toronto make half of what my friend makes at MM IB in NYC
