Citi BO SA 2024 to FT IBD

Hi guys,

I'm currently interning at citi in a MO/BO position and wanting to move to M&A within. Anybody know when mobility comes out for interns or what the process is at citi or other banks. Mostly just want information about the process and how to land an interview. Thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights on internal mobility and transitioning from a back-office (BO) or middle-office (MO) position to a front-office (FO) role like M&A at Citi or other banks:

  1. Internal Mobility Process:

    • Networking: Start by networking with people in the group you want to move to. This includes reaching out to VPs, associates, and other team members to learn more about the role and express your interest.
    • Performance Reviews: Timing is crucial. Ideally, you should network and express your interest after performance reviews are submitted to avoid any potential negative feedback from your current team.
    • HR Involvement: Once you have built relationships and gathered support from the desired group, approach HR to discuss your interest in moving internally. Ensure you have strong performance reviews and endorsements from your current role.
  2. Steps to Take:

    • Excel in Your Current Role: Perform exceptionally well in your current MO/BO role to secure strong feedback and recommendations.
    • Discretion: Avoid openly discussing your intentions to switch roles with other interns or colleagues to prevent any potential backlash.
    • Informational Interviews: Conduct informational interviews with members of the M&A team to understand the skills and experiences they value.
  3. Timing and Application:

    • Application Timing: Internal mobility opportunities and timelines can vary. It's important to stay informed about the specific timelines at Citi by maintaining regular communication with HR and your network within the bank.
    • Preparation: Prepare thoroughly for the interview process by understanding the technical and behavioral aspects of the M&A role. Utilize resources like the WSO Investment Banking Interview Course to enhance your preparation.
  4. General Advice:

    • Be Strategic: Approach the process strategically by aligning your current experiences with the skills required for the M&A role.
    • Leverage Resources: Use available resources, such as networking events and internal job postings, to stay updated on opportunities.

By following these steps and leveraging your network, you can increase your chances of successfully transitioning from a BO/MO role to a front-office position like M&A at Citi or other banks.

Some more fucking information would help. US, UK, EU or APAC? Target or non target? What year are you in?

mobility comes in a couple years after you start FT and its highly unlikely to get into IB thru internal moves(not impossible).

US, target school, graduating next year, meh gpa of 3.5... was hoping to try and apply to move within the bank after the internship but havent heard anything consistent about mobility
